Suspension Knocking - on rebound
Suspension Knocking - on rebound
Have had problems with DRC - leak, followed by replacement pipe. Then car rendered undrivebale by horrendous knocking from front and rear. Central valve replaced.
Now have a knock on rebound - just like you'd get on the old Macpherson strut top mounts when the bush perished. DEaler diagnised 'leaking shock' so replaced cross-pair of shocks plus central valve again. Just the same afterwards.
Dealer concurs it's wrong as they should not knock on rebound, but is lost as to the problem. Any suggestions as to what this might be, experts?
What i can't tolerate is the dealer going on the usual '"replace everything until it goes away" as they clearly don't know what they're looking for, or doing for that matter.
This is a great car, but if it either isn't durable, or the dealers can't maintain it, i'm goign back to an M3.
Thanks!

Mine went in today for new shocks because they found a leak when I took it in for a check-up.DEaler diagnised 'leaking shock' so replaced cross-pair of shocks
Hmm, my M3 was no better....in fact worse and the dealers are just terrible compared to the Audi guys..i'm goign back to an M3.

Just picked up my car from first service and have also been told it needs new front shocks as they are leaking. The tec also thinks this is the cause of the graunching noise on full right lock (personally I doubt this).
On a slightly different note, how come I get charged for 10 litres of oil when the handbook states that the capacity is 8 litres?

The car definitely takes 10 litres of oil to fill regardless of what it says in the handbook, I have done it myself. Check the oil change thread :

My car is have a replacement damper fitted too as it was found to be leaking when they were sorting the clutch.

Markweems: when the system lost pressure and knocked ALL THE TIME over any uneven surfaces (really badly - sounded like an old car with exhaust coming off), Audi said "do not drive" and recovered the car to dealer. The dealer was afew miles away but they didn't even want me to drive there - possibly a bit drastic but at least they cared.
The problem is that if the system has leaked you will have insufficient oil in it and it may lead to damage as somewhere there may be metal to metal contact where there should be oil present. My guidance, although i am not an expert, is if its making a noise, ask the dealer. You probably know what this stupid system will cost to repair out of warranty - 5000-6000 quid.
Where we ALL have an unsatisfactory problem here is that when the car does fall out of warranty we've all suffered leakage and possibly air ingress which may have made the shocks wear prematurely. So, unless all FOUR are replaced you might be stuffed.

I am just glad the car is still under warranty if the repair could be so expensive.....thanks for the advice, am now not driving the car until I take it on a 3 mile journey to the dealer tomorrow. There are lots of knocking and "metal on metal" noises so am worried about the damage caused over the last couple of days. Presume whatever is damaged can all be replaced under warranty though....
