Some suggestions please...

Maybe I am in the wrong place, but I do feel at least I amongst freinds and like minded individuals....

Most will appreciate whats going on....

I could do with some inspiration, which due to the recent terrible events leads to me looking for replacement car/cars preferably...

As the MD of a company, what you drive does actually count for something with many of your peers, customers and even competitors... I would like to consider a 'normal' car for everyday use and later on, put a caterham, lotus elise or track car in the garage...

Trouble is, having an ordinary car on the drive can send out mixed messages...??

I could make a green statement and go for a hybrid, but I am guessing having to drive that most of the time will drive me mental, as someone who really enjoys his driving... thought about a Cooper S as I know of several sports car owners who have on of those to bomb around in in addition to porches or similar?? just not sure about visitors to the company car park seeing a mini in the MD's parking space after the last CLK, M3 and RS4

Anyone got any inspration for me or am I thinking about this too much

Of course totally gutted as the RS4 was a perfect car for me and ticked all the boxes, fast and enjoyable, trackable (just) practical and not too showy...

It depends on what you want from a car but one of the RS owners went to a D3 A8 4.2V8 TDi. It has every conceivable bit of kit on it, cost less a year old than an RS did, huge amounts of power (moreso than an RS if chipped) and the ultimate stealthmobile. And returns 25-30 mpg all day long.

If I had a bigger drive my next car would be one of these unless I found an R8 for £40K!

New 3.0 A4 TDi looks like it going to be fairly decent car, with reduced emissions and improved performance from it's aptented AdBlue technology (due to be released mid-2008) - mate this with quattro and a decent manual gearbox (not sure DGS will ever make it to the inline engines???) and you're surely onto a winner?

I all out agree with this choice! Still got 4WD (to cope with the oodles of torque), lovely biuld, all the toys, stealth and huge comfort. Top Gear mag rates it as the thinking mans choice out of all the big cars. Ticks a lot of boxes the RS did too. Certainly won't look out of place in the MD parking space and what's more it's not in your face like a Merc or Beemer.

Why not go for an a5 3.0 tdi. Spec the s5 alloys and most wont know the diff.
Its a tricky one I know. Good luck and I hope it hasnt messed with your head too much.

Jason, I know this is very easy for me to sit here say this because although I think I know how you are feeling, I don't actually know because (it) has never happened to me BUT I have always maintained that I would never let the buggers get the better of me. Get shot of this RS4 and get another one. Why let these scumbags dictate your life through their fear.

As I said earlier, easy for me to say I know but that's how I feel. I know you must be going through hell but to me it would be my way of sticking two fingers up to these pondlife.

Have a great Christmas mate, at least you've got a few days off to mull things over.

Dont see an issue with a Mini myself, know lots of company directors who drive them or similar without losing any credibility. My eye was drawn to a nice Mini Traveller in BMW the other day, Cooper S with all the toys for less than 25K, cant be bad. I dont think many people take too much notice of the company car park any longer, I know its not the same in the Golf Club carpark, but it sort of makes another statement. Lots of very good oil burners on the Audi sales list too..

Be original, get an Alfa Romeo 159 2.4 Q4. Nobody will steal it, it's original and quality is vastly improved. I almost got the TI version instead of the RS4.

I've driven the R55 model cooper s, much better than the R50. The turbo makes it have so much more bottom end. only trouble is, it's front wheel drive. I think the clubman is ugly and over rated, but I hope people buy them. It may save my job!

Tough choice, but personally i'd go for either an A8 or another RS4.

I remember when we had intruders whilst we were asleep upstairs. Caught them at it and they scarpered, so nothing stolen but I couldn't sleep for months, even after upgrading security.

Borrowed an RR Sport TDV8 for week recently great car quick , chuckable good driving position was most impressed , arrived with 300 miles on it went back with 1500

Anyway after 15 months driving my avant i cant think of anything else that ticks all the boxes so im going to keep it until early 09 where il be defecting to Nissan
but il do my hardest to keep the RS

Do what I've done mate, take a step back, build your track/fun car, and get a Q7 3.0 S Line with the 21" Alloys. Drives great for a big 'un, pretty nifty acceleration, 32mpg, built like a sherman tank, still got all the toys + a few more besides, great presence on the road and looks great in the bosses slot in the carpark
