Got the new tyres on....

Post by tartan_rob » Thu Nov 29, 2007 10:04 am

Well had 4x goodyear F1 Asymmetric fitted yesterday. 275/30/19 Y96.

http://eu.goodyear.com/uk_en/tires/repo ... /index.jsp

I have only done about 100miles so not pushing them but I immediately noticed they are much quieter than the PS2, slightly harder ride due to lower profile (for me that is good) and the turn-in is much more precise. The grip seems excellent too - although I have not pushed them at all but they feel much more planted under the same driving conditions. And the best bit, £152 a tyre delivered....

I'll post some pics over the weekend but I fear this tyre will push the michelin off its high perch.

Sounds good. It'll be good if you report more after you get some more miles on them.

Slighty subjective as you've changed tyre size at the same time though.

Rob, sounds good. I'd be interested to hear how they are when they have some more miles on. What prompted you to go for larger width? Will this help with grip?

Also, is there much rim protection with your new goodyears especially with the lower profile size?

Hi Rob, is this a replacement of the Goodyear F1 GS-D3? is it more expensive than F1 GS-D3? Please show us a close up photo, I'd like to see the sidewall and the rim protection. Does anyone agree the tread pattern is very similar to the Pirelli P-Zero Rosso?

Wow!!! That's a great price. That's £608 a set compared to the £940 a set I paid for the PS2s in June.

Where did you get them from?

Guys - I went upsize to drop the profile + reduce costs. The Asymmetric only comes in set sizes just now. The rim protection looks good, I damaged all my wheels with Michelin so I don't rate them at all for the rim protection.

They came from www.tyrexpress.com. I'll get some photo's at the weekend.

Thats an outstanding price, i was about to order the verdestien Ssantas which came 2nd only to the new Goodyears however at this price these are very tempting. As mentioned above will the only difference be ride comfort and potentially more grip due to the change in size or are there other things to consider?

My speedo is about 1mph worse than before. I can live with that, I have roadangel for accurate speed measurements. And they are MUCH quieter, so from inside the car you hear more of the engine note.

Just looking at the tyre express website, it seems the eagle F1 asymmetrics are £10 cheaper per tyre than the equivalent eagle F1 GSD-3. What is the difference between these 2 tyres, does anyone know?

Rob, according to a tyre size calculator site, your new tyre size is only marginally smaller in diameter and circumference than stock. Your speedo will apparently read only 2% too fast. That is well within the acceptable limits.

Technically the F1 Assymetrics have been brought out to replace the GS-D3's as they are ceasing production of this tyre, even though it was a great tyre.

If the assymetrics are as cheap as you say Rob they are what will be going on my RS when I need them. Although 255 to 275 width is a fair jump in size, do the fit the rims OK? Any pics?

As said it will be interesting to hear your views once you have scrubbed them in better.

Regarding the rim protection - won't the extra tyre width help as the tyres will protrude over the rim?

Yes it looks very much the same, and what sort of extra "Drag" will be there to pull down economy?. :?:

I'm not convinced the tread pattern looks the same but I suppose ultimately, in the theoretical world, there will only be 1 ultimate perfect tyre for all conditions.
