Rolling Road on 24/11/2007

Post by mrdeli » Wed Nov 21, 2007 6:11 pm

My car and my brothers will be on the RR on Saturday - I'll of course post up the results on Sat for those interested - If it's meant to be a true 414hp, what power should i be seeing at the RR?

Many thanks Mark

How longs a piece of string?

You want to be near the 400hp mark if your on 100 Ron. If your down below 380hp then i would look at getting further RR tests done elsewhere to compare.

When i had mine RR at JD Engineering it produced 393.5 hp on 95 Ron and the owners car (RS4 B7) was slightly higher although he ran on 98 Ron.

You should be pretty near spot on, running on 98 RON fuel should you not? I think you can decide yourself what you feel a suitable tollerance would be. I'd want to see comfortably over 400BHP.

We saw Dyno Dynamics giving near spot on engine BHP figures on Saturday for the B5s. Runs were done in 4th gear, 50psi tyre pressures and Shoot_44 dyno mode.

There is still the question, does the dyno properly workout the power/torque with the 60/40 torque split the B7 RS4 has.

I am going back in two weeks time, my mapped car running V-power only managed 323 bhp!

Would be good to comapre low mileage against say a 20/25k car to see if they do loosen up or/and release a bit more.

These figures all amaze me! It seems hard to believe that a company like Audi could produce so many of its top model car with such a difference in BHP to that stated by them.

I my industry (refrigeration) there are many different ways to see power consumption / power output of a system and people will argue which result is best forever! The main way of testing systems has been proven time and time again to not predict real life yet main manufactures still use it.

323 BHP quoted above seems so very low that would you not think that it was really noticeable when driving a car nearly 100BHP down?

I wonder if this is the same as the figures here, are these dyno's capable a proving real life figures that you actual get when driving a quattro Audi?

The rolling road that i'm going on is meant to be the very latest one - Their web states -

'Facilitated by investment in the most up to date Rolling Road Chassis Dyno in the world'

http://www.dynodemon.co.uk/

So should get an accurate answer -

I'm a little confused - I thought it was commonly thought that the quattro system lost around 20% power to the wheels - how are people getting 380hp +???

Even the M3 is meant to lose around 10% isn't it? (obviously 2wd)

My maths says:

RS4 = 414hp - 20% = 332hp approx - Is this not the power I should expect from the Rolling Road if my car is producing a full 414bhp? - Or am i missing something?

Thanks Mark

PS - As i've never been on a RR before - other than checking oil and making sure the car is warm are there any other procedures to follow? Thanks Mark

People have been quoting the dyno corrected flywheel horse power. You are right, the wheel power is the only thing the dyno will be able to truly post accurately

Oh i see - so I guess the figures can be easily massaged depending on what criteria you use for the drivetrain losses.

Is 20% drivetrain loss about right for the RS4 then????

Surely power at wheels is the only figure that actually means anything meaningful?

Jason, John Thorne said he would be happy to run your car again FOC, he was looking for you after the last car on Saturday. It was jumping around a lot, theres no way 323 was a true reading.

Let us know how you get on please :)

David
