Orange indicators

Post by sonny » Fri Nov 16, 2007 5:48 pm

Do Audi do silver indicators to replace the orange one in the headlight units, as I'm not a fan of the fried egg look, any ideas?

Is there also a after market option available?

I think the latter models had the clear indicators, but they are a complete headlamp unit, and not just the indicator. Very expensive if memory serves me right.

You have options

1. trade your car for a late 2006
2. break open the lights and use heat to remove ( see several US Forums)
3. Buy new lights to fit

Note you have to remove quite an amount to change the lights

see this post on how to do it

That sounds like a worrying amount of work and cost to do the job. I don't like the idea of having to remove so much just to fit 2 new lights. The potential for cock-ups must be quite high.

They do look better on the other hand, but not better enough to justify it in my opinion. A good option would be to trade with a later car but then you'd have the worry of potentially getting a "lemon" as some have experienced.

I'll live with it I think.

Are the later cars lemons?!

If it was me, I'd certainly split open the lamps and remove the orange reflector. I don't mind doing things like this. And if worse comes to worse, and I do bugger it up....just buy a new set, and sell the original ones to recoup "some" money

I've just done the mod. Bought a secondhand mint pair of adaptive lights with clear indicators from ebay - £400. Took them down to my local Audi dealer and they fitted them along with a black optics grill for £112 + VAT. Done the job in two hours, not a mark on the car and it looks superb. Anyone intersted in my set of mint, orange indicator, adaptive, xenon headlights?

I think the actual lens is orange, and hence use a clear bulb....could be wrong though...

SJ as far as I know, the only change is the clear indicator reflectors...nothing else in late 06/07 cars.

Re: the lemon remark, what I was trying to say was that if one is happy with the performance of their car, they could regret pxing to another given the reports of apparently under-powered RS4s out there. Not trying to say the later ones are lemons at all, just that I would be careful part exchanging simply to achieve a change in colour of the indicators.

Jezzer that sounds very good value. Which dealer if you don't mind me asking? You can pm if you wish.

There's a piece of orange plastic in front of a clear bulb.

If you do the mod yourself you have to remove the orange plastic (by baking the headlamp in an oven until the glue that holds the two parts together is soft enough to separate them and then peeling off the orange plastic) and then use e.g. Philips Silvervision (look silver but shine orange when lit) bulbs.

If you have the new clear headlamps, you also need the "silver but orange when lit" bulbs.

Thanks mate, seems like a lot of hassle, and more stuff can go wrong, I think the orange has grown on me lol, think it also gives the car a mature look also IMO
