Worrying Race

Guys, had a very worrying incident today up in Scotland.......travelling back with the mrs, couple of cases and 4 sets of golf clubs in the back of the car! A young guy in a Seat Leon Cupra R was driving right up my rear, so as soon as we pulled onto a motorway I floored it from 50mph in 3rd all way up to 120mph and never pulled away from him.......know the car was heavily laden but really did make me wonder if they do have 414bhp!!!

The Cupra R's are a very fast car. How many miles on yours? (it will get quicker with more miles)

You have to bear in mind the RS4 is a quick car but not even nearly as quick as a highly tuned car, it comes with cumfort though.

LCR's are lighter and with over 300 BHP easily available with a choice few mods it's no surprise he kept up, the power/weight ratio must be awesome.

I gather the B7 RS4 doesn't always muster-up 414 BHP. . .

Is it not basically a 225 S3 (engine)? Tunable, I guess, to potentially 280bhp and lots more torque, but I'd be surprised if the power/weight ratio should outrun a B7 RS4  unless, of course, it's had some major turbo surgery...

I had a similar incident with a Golf V6 4motion... I was supprised he kept up

I was pulling from around 30mph in 3rd... I guessed he must have been in 2nd and thrashing the thing!

I let him go after vmaxing 3rd but I was a little supprised to see him glued to my rear bumper.

Quickest Loen time is 15.85 to 100, you was not trying hard enough.

A couple of Cupra R's in my area are well over 300bhp with remap and a lighter car than you were. Given extra person plus luggage with you it doesn't surprise me

Seems about right to me too. The newer 2.0 petrol turbo goes to 320bhp with an exhaust & map giving low 5's 0-60 which makes it comparable with a loaded RS4.

IMO unless your driving a car which is putting 500+ HP to the the tarmac, once you move up to car's such as the RS4's,Lancers,M3(E92) and any other sports car which does 0/60 in 6 sec or less it starts to become less clean cut during head to head situations like Markweems, if I take a friend who drives lets say a 2.0l mondeo out in my RS4 it blows his socks off but if it's a friend who drives something like a cupra or a R32 they're still very impressed but there socks are still on, because half a sec or 2 secs difference ie 100/150 BH out in the real world isn't as noticeable.

He probably had a go purely because he has a GT35 under the hood not the OEM turbo!

Have seen 340-350bhp quoted for the S3/TT with those turbos and a decent exhaust, so in terms of power to weight there wouldn't be much in it.

New ones will give 300bhp-ish with a remap, but if it was an older 1.8t then best you'll get is 260-270bhp. Light cars and surprisingly fast. My friends remapped LCR keeps up with my 340bhp S3.

Thats quite funny because i watched a cupra video on youtube and a bloke left a comment saying his 310bhp cupra obliterated a new rs4(b7) in scotland.+ various evos etc. I laughed at first. :?
