Im just about to put my plate on the car and as I was washing last night I noticed there are no screws that attach the plate on the front or rear. Are they velcroed on or is there some new fangled way that they are attached?

Mine are just screwed on - no magic here!

Double sided adhesive?

Do you have the black plastic outer bit around the plate that the Dealers fit? If so if it is like mine was then the plate is stuck to the black plastic which in turn is screwed to the boot lid. Time to prise up one end and carefully (!!) pull plate off!

I stuck my new plates on the back as the screws look horrible! The front one was the same as the back, I did away with the black plastic plate holder both front and rear as well.

Ill hav eto give them a tug as there are no screws. Thanks

Sounds like double sided sticky pads, you could use a flat head screwdriver wrapped in a microfibre to prise them off if you fear tugging at them.

use dental floss with a "sawing" action. by far the safest bet.

Are number plates now attached so that if you try to remove they break. Thought id seen this somewhere to deter number plate theft.

If you prise them off bottom to top they should, however they may if you pull from left to right or vice versa. Hence why I sue the screwdriver lever method or like others have posted, dental floss sawing technique.

Just pull them off. I did this when I got mine. Keep prising at each end and they will just pull off. You will be left with quite ugle adhesive residue from the sticky pads - I find the best way to get rid of this is to SOAK it in petrol for about 10 mins and then rub off with a cloth soaked in petrol.

Don't know why you want to take your plates off BUT as from 1st Oct the laws on number plates have been tightened. MOT stations now have a 10 page book to adhere to - I know my car just failed its MOT for the gap between numbers and letters not being correct - yes really! I could write a long screed about this and the stupid laws in the UK but law is law and I cannot change it. The police WILL now take away number plates that do not comply and return them to DVLA (for reselling)

Nothing sinister, just had my plate on retention and thought seeing as though my car is now 6 months old I would put it on. Wont be messing with font, size or spacing as it just looks chav.

For plates which are bonded with double sided pads I would also recommend you pour warm water over and behind the plates. This will soften the adhesive and reduce any chance of damging your paint work. Would certainly avoid trying to prise of with screwdrivers/ levers of any sort.
