Hi Guys
Quick shout on the "earths nector." Need a top up today ideally so checked and spoke to Audi they only recommend Castrol SLX 3 for long life servicing.... (warranty) Yet they reckon they are the only ones that sell it for £14 quid a litre !!!

Didnt have in the boot on delivery (idiot) can any one confirm or suggest another route to get this stuff before I contribute again to Audi dealerships profit margins??
Cheers in advance

Drop the oilman a PM. I get MOTUL from him, his prices are keen and he delivers very quickly (discount for forum members too)...

Agree with the oilman comment (i.e. opie oils)
I went for Fuchs Titan last time, based on as many views & opinions as I could find

Yes but at what price, Opie oils give discounted prices on here.
I just changed my oil & Filter using Titan (3900miles) done by main agent, they agree the oil is good.

Cheers for the heads up guys.... So this titan stuff is supplied from the oil man( Ive e mailed him) and then you took it to a dealer who carried out the change, right? As i spoke to Newbury Audi this am and I got the impression they would only warrant Castrol SLX and should it be found out I used something else the warranty would be jepadised as its VAG approved etc etc

I get the impression they are trying to fleece you. My stealer tried the same tactic once and tried to bil me for 9ltrs of oil. I refused to pay because I supplied my own oil. Started sprouting of about void warranty, not aproved oil etc. They soon shut up and deleted the cost of the oil when I showed them the oil spec. I always supplier my own VAG parts for a service. Saves a bit of cash.

Indeed, it reminds me of the time the dealer wanted to charge me £17 to change a rear indicator bulb, excluding the price of the bulb! Given that'd take about 1 minute I make that £1020/hour...

I don't know about Audi only recommending the Castrol. My car was supplied with Mobil 1 ESP in a Mobil leather case etc. The important thing is the 504 spec from then on we are just finessing between several good high spec synthetics.

FYI -
no need to take the oil to the stealer if you are not having a service. Theres a very detailed post on here from Daz on changing the oil anf filter between services. (you dont get the stealer stamp, but its not part of the audi maintenance and you dont pay them the labou costs either).
I change mine regularly using Opie Oils (as do many on here), and keep the receipts for confirmation of oil changes to any prospective buyer - should i ever find something to replace this great car.
My 2P.

The castrol stuff sold at halfords has teh exact same numbers on the bottle and even says approved for vw audi engines. Is it okay to use? Ive checked every number on the bottle and its exactly thesame as the top up bottle supplied.

I was advised a while ago that any oil that meets the required spec can be used, and the dealer\Audi CS would have a 'difficult' time trying to decline any warranty based on so called non-approved oils, as its the spec, and not the oil that is the critical factor.
