I wonder what kind of damage needs to be done to write off a 50k car?

I have had one category D'd after a motorway shunt. Effectively the insurers would replace the car if repairs were less than 60% of value (deemed to be £50K). In the event they decided it required a new shell and the estimate for this was £28K. After promising to be very very fussy with the repair they agreed to replace even though less than the £30K. For the record I was not at fault andd the third party insurers have admitted full liability. I would not be surprised if the one here has not had a new shell

There is a rs6 on ebay that was a cat d car , it was only 6 months old when damage . I 've see the pics of the cat and TBH it was only a light punt but as the o/s/f chassis leg had mover 10-15 mm so it was written off @3,000 miles .

I looked at a cat d before buying my 'legit' RS4 - when i weighed it all up it wasn't worth the risk.

I remember seeing this car on a salvage site, from memory it was clubbed in the drivers side front corner, wheel was pushed back etc. Not sure whether it has A post damage though.

Cat D's are reckoned to be worth 25% less.

Cheers

Ben
