I have no cradle, but do I still have bluetooth??

Post by RedRobert » Thu Aug 16, 2007 2:02 pm

Hi guys

Have my RS4 1 week today and lovin it. :D I have a question re bluetooth with my MMI screen thingmayjigger.

When I select "tel" it asks me to use my mobile phone. Audi tells me today that unless I have a cradle (I don't) then I do not have bluetooth. The previous owner has a flimsy little Nokia thing that I can connect with and still get bluetooth over the speakers etc, but the functionality of my screen is nil.

My brother has a new A6 Le Mans and he can use the Nav Screen to see his numbers, dial number, etc etc. Its a class feature that I like / want.

So, am I stumped? Is there no way I can buy software etc to activate the bluetooth feature of the MMI screen without a cradle?? Am I stuck with the Nokia "kit"?

Any help / advice appreciated.

Thanks
Ronan

get it retrofitted, try craigb on here

this is the way to go anyway, if your car had been specced with bluetooth from the factory you would either have the ugly cradle on your dash or would have lost the lovely RS4 wheel in lieu of the ugly multi-function one

Sounds like it has been coded for an audi mobile phone system ( I would guess a code of 2 or 6 in the phone section), but doesn't actually have one installed. This is the case with some 3rd party installers, they code the RNS-E to a phone setting to get the mute to work when really they do not have to.

I have spoken to craigyb about installing the phone prep on mine. £399 does seem a little pricey though :?:

Yeah, I spoke to him yesterday as well and got the same price. I agree thats its pricey. Gonna have to sleep on it as £400 just to have the bluetooth functionality seems alot for all the time I get to use it! :?

Guys, is it worth it???
:? :!: :?:
Cheers

Defo worth it as it saves having to have some nasty stuff stuck on the dash, the option itself was not much more OEM & as long as you've not got a Nokia N Series phone, you'll get full functionality through the Infotainment system icluding address book etc.

I cover a good 20K miles per annum so it's more than worth it for me. If you only do a few miles per annum then perhaps not as beneficial.

the bluetooth and phone interface on these is the very good indeed.
phone in pocket, access phone book, missed calls, last dialed calls, recieved calls.

I use my phone a lot while driving and this is a very good system indeed.
£400 is well worth it in my book.

You've just raised a question for me. I have a Blackberry Pearl phone - do you think I'd still get the full functionaility with it?

Thanks

I've no idea, however drop Craig a line & he should be able to answer. I know all phones will work with the Audi RS4 bluetooth module, however the Nokia N Series (i have the N95) has issues regarding syncing of the phonebook etc. Still makes & recieves calls perfectly & all works though the Audi Infotainment, but no phonebook.

I had Craig retrofit the BT module in mine and my Nokia 8800 works a dream with it. To be fair to Craig, it's not just supplying the module and strapping under the dash somewhere, there is a lot work which has to be done (taking the complete RNC unit out and putting new software on it) plus suppling the loom and the mic as well and then to use the VAGcom to get it to work. I watched him do mine and to be honest I think it's well worth the money.

I was very tempted to do this myself but seeing what Craig had to do to get it working then I'm glad I didn't even attempt it.

Audi insist on fitting a cradle - that is just about useless unless you happen to have one of the very few phones which there is an adapter for!

Craigyb has retrofitted the Audi Bluetooth kit, MINUS cradle, to many cars - including RS4s (my RS4 has craigyb supplied Audi Bluetooth fitted), and it's superb.

£400 is a cheap price to pay for having the genuine Audi bluetooth fitted.

Blackberry Pearl - You get the phone book, but the received calls list and dialled numbers seem to generate at random. Sometimes the last dialled number enters into the list. Still pretty useable.

The Blackberry 8800 operates as above as well.

of course the other option is a Parrott. I had a 3100 in my old car and it was a top bit of kit. Granted it doesn't look as trick/clean as the OEM system but then they are only £60 these days so right now i am stuck in two minds...
