If you're debating whether or not to buy that RS4......

...JUST GO AND DO IT!!!! :D :D :D

So here's me, coming from a 2003 STI Impreza - I've had a few of them and they are great value for money I think.

In the days leading up to collection of my RS4, a 2006 red saloon model which I picked up last Thursday evening, I had some butterfly gitters in the belly - "Am I wise", I'd ask myself! "Feck, its alot more money than the Subaru's / Evo's etc". "What about depreciation etc"... I have to say that since 8.30pm last Thursday not one of these concerns has entered by body!!!

I know that people on dedicated forums such as this generally have such a car, and tend maybe to blow wind up their own backsides etc, and you can ponder the reality sometimes. Let me give you my view....I would like to think I am independent...

The car is such an amazing piece of engineering and machinery. I did not believe that the driving experience would be so great. In my view, much better than an M3 (no debates please). The steering is so responsive and the grip is unbelieveable (even compared to the STI's etc). The car is so well placed to the road. Comfort is great (I took it for 3 hours drive yesterday, and get this, averaged 29 mpg!). Toys are class too with the TV, Sat nav, BOSE etc.

My brother put it.."STI's etc are good, but a young fella's fast car...the RS4 is a man's car!"

To be honest, I've been cruising around at 40-50mph - its all you need with the buckets of torque etc. Good times!

In summary, for me, I'm so very pleased I got the car. Things like depreciation etc are secondary no matter how much cash you have to spare (I have none now! hee hee  ) - the driving experience is the best I have come across.

So if you're wondering "should I?" - just go and do it.

Thanks to everyone who offered me some advice over the last few weeks. Rock on.

I've gotta ask....

Why buy an RS4 to drive at 40-50 mph and average 29mpg?

If you're not careful, your car will complain about meing misused! ;)

I was getting 29mpg driving at 60mph. What I was trying to explain was that you do not get the feeling like in the STI where you go "staging" around roads. I can't really explain it but with this car there is simply no temptation to "stage" in it. :)

Maybe I'm getting old
