What power are people getting with a milltek system - I would really like to know costs and benefits / drawbacks of the milltek exhausts.

Must've been one one of those new 'Mystic' dynos in the US which tell you what you want to hear.

If they are suggesting a standard RS4 engine makes 500 hp with only a milltek...or any modified exhaust for that matter + "modified" engine management....well that is just horseshit.

It is a race car with custom made downpipes custom exhaust - so probably NO CATS and so yeah... running a little race fuel, silly timing, no catch branch manifolds, I would say "around" 500 would be quite possible.

Still, I find it rather hard to believe that the standard manifold/downpipes are so restrictive. I'd give it maybe 30-40 bhp with a very free flowing manifold/no cats. A bit more with aggressive mapping....but 86 bhp on top of the standard car??!?...I agree this is one optimistic US estimate I'm afraid.

I'dd say max 460hp, not more.... now because they got the car lighter and ganged the gear ratios, it must perform very good, no doubt, btu never they have 500hp.... I am ready to bet my own RS4 V8 on that

Like I said in a prevous thread, if it revs to 9.5-10K rpm maybe....

Car with Miltek downpipes and exhaust was making little more tha standard on last rolling road outing, strange when Miltek claim 20 bhp for exhaust alone, having said that my B5 gained 26 bhp with just cats and exhaust but that was on AMD rolling road just after they had fitted and without pre-fitting test, so its possible the car was already more than 380 to start with, and never really noticed any change in performance after.

Not on standard internals (as is claimed in the article)...probably wouldn't last more than a few laps.

If this car runs US 114 octane (120 RON) unleaded and is mapped to suit the fuel, then I can't see why it wouldn't make 500 crank HP after all. However, as it's been dynoed in the US, and loads of dynos in the US display cr@p, I'm still finding it a bit hard to believe. I don't think it's impossible though.

Power output is definitely possible. If you read the article it says, "stock RS4 engine with identical internals to the RS4." This doesn't stop them 'blueprinting' the engine. There are no cats and no exhaust boxes, i.e. a 'straight through' system. The manifolds are also custom built and this makes a massive difference to air flow and power if the manifolds are machined to the actual head, as opposed to a generic cylinder head.

Totally agree, lets say they get just 25-30BHP from a half decent re-map, then getting another 50BHP from a fully custom exhaust with no-cats, custom manifolds & no doubt some other trickery is most certainly a likely outcome. A US Dyno being accurate though is quite unlikely so who knows.
The 500BHP figure is certainly achievable & i'd be sure the stock RS4 internals could handle the extra power, although the gearbox couldn't but the article states the gearbox is not stock.

In the 80's I drove a 1600 Talbot Sunbeam for a semi-works team and my car was used as a test bed for Mikael Sundstrom's car. One piece of kit tested, was a new exhaust manifold that was six feet in length and this gave 30bhp at the wheels, dyno tested before and after, and this was actually the measured increase on a full GP2 engine, not on a standard motor. Sadly for Mikael, it didn't fit his car, as it fouled the LHD steering rack!
