Well respect to Evo for not being as biased as usual in their review.

They agree the RS4:

Looks better
Has better interior/build
Better steering
Sounds more aggressive ...and...
on real UK roads is likely to be much better than the M3 in all round/all-weather driving ability and point-to-point driving.

One interesting thing I thought about is that if the RS4 and M3 were tested with identical tyre compounds as standard, the RS4 would come off even better than it does on its standard (fairly crap) tyres.

Hi Simon, hope you're enjoying the car :D . My car came with a brand new set of Pirelli P-zeros all-round so sadly I haven't had a chance to experiment.

My observations are mainly from driving a demo RS4 saloon which had Michelin pilot sports (as does the E92 M3 as standard). I find the michelins grippier in the dry and with even better turn-in speed. Another very highly recommended tyre for the RS4 seems to be the Goodyear F1. Some RS4s come with Contis as standard although I couldn't comment on how good they are.

Given how slowly I'm piling on the miles (only get to drive the car once a week), it'll be a while until I change tyres.

I to think the Rs4 wins on style, i love it that it got all the attention from on lookers, thats just what i like too.. being very selfish, and a huge ego thats all i ever wont :O), anyway..thats enoguh about me...lets talk about me :P

He did and the points made are there for all to read in black and white. He forgot to mention a more precise gearshift, sharper turn in and better brakes. EVO and other mags were questioning whether BMW had fitted race pads to their press cars. Brakes have always been a week point of M3's. Considering BMW had two years in which to better the RS4 they seem to have failed.

I had PS's on my M3 E46, expensive tyre but very good grip levels in both wet and dry conditions. generally agreed to be significantly better than the Conti's some cars came fitted with.

They are however M3 specific compounds (so I understand) which may make a difference.

Cheers

Interestingly the RS4 is still in the #2 slot for Evo's "Sports Saloons" section in 'The Knowledge' (number 1 being an Evo 9 I think)....

For a 4 door saloon that will kill the M3 in the wet and considering it is 2 years OLD - BMW have not done very well. Lets hope that the RS5 takes things a few steps forward again and really puts a sock in BMW drivers who still have that old view of RWD will always be better.

just read the review and aprt from the last sentence it seems to have most components ie, brakes steering engine etc of the rs4 ahead of the m3 leaving the final sentence saying that they had more fun in m3 but that it was personal preference. Given that evo had the last gen m3 cs (not csl) ahead of the rs4 in their last write up i am very glad that i didnt hold on for the new m3. What autocar and evo are saying is that the lst m3 cs was better than the new one!!
As for looks I think the rs4 is quite understated (something i like) so if the m3 doesnt look so purposful as the rs4 i can imagine in the flesh its going to look pretty naff.
Keep the mediocre write ups comming it cant harm our rs4 residuals. :)
