RS 4 gets a mention in Clarkson's column...
"it may be the most complete car money can buy. It's fast, practical and not at all ostentatious."
He mentions some negatives (rear legroom with buckets and cost) but it's nice to see this car is still being talked about even after 2 years...

2 years is nothing!
It should have kept on being produced..............

I like the idea its no longer been produced, means resale will be higher and its nice to be a unique driver , How many M3`s are around ... Too many. Too common.

The last paragraph of the M3 article in this weeks Autocar does imply the RS4 beats the M3.
amazing turnaround from Audi

The Auto Express also gives a close verdict to the RS4. The M3 rated better as an ultimate track car but the RS4 gets a better rating for ride, steering and gearbox and is the preferred choice for the road. As you say an amazing turn around for Audi. I am sure some will prefer the M3 but in the past it seemed to need rain for the motoring press to love an Audi over a BM.

The pistonheads review (of the M3) wasn't as positive as I expected either:

I think what benefits the RS4 are the low expectations for it and high for the M3. I mean by all acounts the older S/RSs were somewhat of a duffer, fast but not fun. Point and shoot. So when the RS4 comes out, everyone has their socks knocked off, where as everybody then expected the E92 to be as vast of an improvement over the E46 as the B7 was over the B5 and it just wasn't.

Fair comment
Wouldn't say it applies to objective "head-to-head" tests, but the generally weak reception may be based on expectations of a B5 to B7 type improvement
Still, it hasn't happened and the Beemer looks to have fallen short...

It must be said that ALL manufacturers are failing in this segment. What started out as sensibly powered, lithe small sedans have grown to heavy mastodonts with massive power but numb handling. I am tempted to save up and go higher or lower and leave money in my pocket.

How can you say that the manufacturers have failed in this area.....
Do you know your in an RS4 forum???..
You obviously don`t own one of these cars. As they have been discribed as one of the best cars ever produced....
No that been said
