Initial maintenance

Post by WR1Bro » Tue Jun 12, 2007 9:05 am

Audi dealer said there is nothing until the first service.

Other source says the plugs should be changed after car is run in?

Does anyone have any input?

Early cars needed their plugs changing to a different spec. AFAIK this isn't required these days.

Though you should be aware that it can foul the plugs if when the car is started it isn't warmed fully before shuting the engine down.

WR1,
Im just running in my car at the mo, and when ive done around 1200 miles, i will be changing the oil myself.Have a look at the oil change thread kindly put up by another member, it really is very easy.I think its important to dump the engine oil after a few miles, to get rid of any minute particles of swarf from say the pistons, rings and bores. It will be peace of mind for myself, but others may not be so bothered, regards, SIMON. :)

It certainly is worth changing the oil. I'm slightly surprised this isn't a requirement from the Audi.

Looks like Opie Oils will be getting some got business over the next few years!!

Is there not a filter for that?

Just passed 500 miles in mine, so I checked the oil this morning and it was a smidge of the minimum

The oil is so clean and clear it was hard to see the level, not having checked it before I don't know if it was low from delivery or if I am going to have an oil user for the first few thousand miles :?

You cannot be serious.
Do you seriously think changing the oil after 1200 miles will make any difference what so ever.
If Audi thought for a second that not changing the oil until 18000 miles was going to create shagged pistons with all this metal floating about after its been filtered do you not think they would insist on an oil change earlier?

Funny you should say that, I got home after picking mine up, checked the oil level and it needed 1 pint!!!!!!! I S**T myself as I never went over 70 mph. I filled it up, and now covered 590MILES NO oil use.

I cannot see the point. Can you tell me what are the benefits of doing this? Surely it doesn't need to be done that often, or do you like collecting dealer stamps in your service history book?

I'm also thinking about changing my oil, as I don't know the history of my RS4 other than i'm the second owner. It's got 6k miles on the clock at the moment, and it's saying another 6900 miles for the next service, so I'm not sure what sort of life the car had before me. I know my B7 S4 was going to get 19k miles before it's service, as I sold the car with 17K miles on the clock.

I can understand your reason for changing now as you don't know how the first owner treated the car. I would also not go as far as changing the oil until say 17/18k miles. I'm just looking at changing when the car is a year old when it should have covered 6k miles or so.

I'm sure if they thought it was required - and if they thought they could get away with it - Audi would have built in an early oil change to the service schedule, it would earn the dealers more money after all.
