3 Quick Questions??

Post by W8PMC » Sat May 19, 2007 12:07 pm

Totally loving the car so far (more than i expected), however 3 little things i need answering if possible.

Firstly, should the RS4 Saloon have a 1st aid kit as standard?? (though all Audi's now had these) & where should it be?? (dealer has ordered me one but states they're not standard).

Secondly, try as i might i can't eject the DVD Nav disc. I've read the manual but that states i should raise the flap (obvious) & press the eject button, but doing this causes nothing to happen. Disc is defo in their as the nav works fine, but i can't eject. Do i need to be in a certain function or a certain procedure needs following??

Thirdly, is the Sat-Nav intuative?? My first usage was Wedensday when i needed to drive from Wigan to Camberley in Surrey & once i input the destination it gave me 3 options on the very zoomed out map (therefore difficult to work out what it was offering. I thought i'd picked the M6/M6 Toll/M42/M40 route south, however the nav started wanting to send me off the M6 as early as Stoke :?: All settings appear correct such as Fast Route, Motorways on, Toll rds on, Dynamic etc. & their were defo no delays in info so can't see why the nav was trying to send me X country at almost every exit. Will it learn my preferences for the future? Also can i zoom in when it offers me the initial route options to see what exactly it's suggesting, as i don't really understand the icons it offers on the left side of the screen.

Cheers in advance.

As far as the ejection of the disc goes mine was "locked in" by the dealer as a cautionary procedure as so many cars are broken into and these stolen. The dealer told me this at collection and said that this could be turned off but they will need to do this. Sounds like yours will need to be "unlocked" by the dealer if you want to be able to remove the disc. However you might want to leave it locked if you aren't really going to use the slot for anything else but the Navi disc.

I don't find the MMI intuitive at all. As you say you enter you're destination and it shows you a map with the available routes on but it does not allow you to see details of those routes as far as I can see. You just get to see how long you'll spend on the motorway.

It is rather a sad affair when a tom tom is better than a £2k sat nav from a premium brand like Audi.

Tomtom also has all the camers and mobile points
see http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/ an excellent site

also
As hard as it is to keep the mobile camera database as accurate and up to date as possible, the UK Government seem destined to make it even more difficult. From June 2007 a change in regulations means that police and camera partnerships can site mobile cameras on any road they wish - there no longer needs to have been at least three crashes resulting in death or serious injury in the previous three years...

I thought they give you two discs, one for the rest of Europe ?

True or False ?

I did have just one but following the (free!) TMC upgrade I now have two. One for UK and western EU and one for eastern EU.

Cheers,

I'll check with the dealer about the unlock.

I'm sure i only got 2 nav discs, but as i can't eject it, i can't read what countries/regions it covers. TBH i can't see me ever driving to Eastern Europe in the car so UK & all of Western Europe for my Spa & Ring trips will be just fine.

Looks like i'll just have to get used to the Nav being a little stubborn then. Perhaps it will calm down in time once it's seen a few more of my routes & i may look to see if their's any way of zooming in on that first screen that shows 2-3 alternative initial routes. may even have a quick scan of the manual.

No-one confirm/deny about the 1st Aid Kit? Does that car have one as standard & where should it be located??

I've now had two Audis and neither came with the first aid kit as standard. Indeed, you can select it as an option on the 'configuator' on the audi site.

Paul, mine didnt have a first aid kit in it on delivery, as the cost is minimal, get your dealer to put one in the car... only countries where they are required by law are they supplied foc... ie Germany and Spain you have to carry them by law, sure there are others too. Dodnt forget you need spare bulb set for France and Belgium too.

Anyone have a list of the list of the countries that the western europe disc covers? Am just wondering whether I need the Eastern Europe disc at all.

First aid kit is an option in the brochure. £25
I find the nav ok to use, the only thing i've had to get used to is it redirecting you now the TMC works...
