Hi All

Back to an old topic, has anybody taken the plunge and fitted a towbar to their Avant ? Having an extra car just for towing is a bit of a pain.

PS Am i right in seeing somewhere theres an update to cure the cold start "spluttering".

Cheers Lee

I have fitted a Westfalia towbar to my Avant. It was fitted here in Leicester by Rick at Bermick (he fitted my previous one to my RS6Avant). The only mod required is cutting approx a 2 inch by quarter inch strip off the lip of the lower aspect of the rear diffuser. If you want a picture let me have yor e-mail address and i will send you one.

I am due to take my car to dealers soon to upgrade the Sat Nav and will query them on the rough, surging, fast tickover I experience when starting from cold for the first few miles. Is that what you mean?

hi colin/lee

is the towbar removable, is it swan necked in shape, did the fitter have to remove the bumber, are the mounting points and wiring loom conection alraedy in place?

Im a keen cyclist and have a bike rack that locates on2 the swan necked ball hitch. i had raised the possibility of it being a factoryfitted option at the point of ordering the car, wasnt availble, i have heared some noises regarding voiding warranty?

love 2 c ur picies,

many thanks charles

Towbar is a removableone and is swan necked. Pretty certain the the bumper was removed to fit it, all the fitting points are present, there was no drilling or modifications required apart from the small cut on the diffuser. I shall try to remember to put a few pictures on this post tomorrow for you.
Notsure about warranty but as it is a standard Westphalia A4 towbar and the bodyshell is made from the same quality steel and has the fitting points I have gone ahead. Rs6 gave me no problem with towing a Lotus Sunbeam in the UK and to Germany several times.

The socket is attached to the towbar and lives behind the diffuser, it pivots down when needed. If one is a perfectionist it would be easy to have small section of black plastic that would clip on to cover the small section that has been removedI.
