Any body come up with a solution yet? I am seriously considering selling the car as I am not happy driving round with no solution should I get a puncture. I have been carrying a spare tyre on long trips, but this isn't ideal either. Would be a shame as I really like the car.

I have to agree, no spare is a bad idea, I asked the salesman what I should do if I have a blow out his reply was to ring Audi road side assistance and I know what the young Lady will say on the other end of the phone," What! you have no spare wheel". still I will not be getting rid of this fantastic piece of engineering, even if it has got to be a three wheeler once in a Blue Moon, please any solutions would be greatfully received.

I've found a solution using an Audi space saver wheel and a high profile space saver tyre.

It's a 17" wheel so it only fits on the rear - so if you have a major problem on the front you have to fit the space saver to the rear and swap the rear wheel onto the front.

The wheel is part number 8E0 601 027 C 03C (£62.78 + VAT from your local Audi dealer).

The tyre is a Continental CST17 135/90 R 17 104M (£51.00 +VAT from Denmead Tyre Services).

...and of course you have to buy a jack as the RS4 does not come with one.

Jack part no.: 8E0 011 031 N £20.86 incl. VAT

and if you want the nice plastic box for the jack:

Tool box for jack, part no.: 8E0 012 112 B £5.52 incl. VAT

Before I do that, presumably you can use the same wheel nuts?

GlynG60 - have you got the plastic box for the jack to fit? I couldn't get it to fit so I've put the jack into one of the cutouts in the foam liner.

I have not bought one yet, but I can see it might not fit where it supposed to, due to the sqared off nature of the well. I was thinking of putting it one the storage cutouts in the polystyrene liner (these are only about £8 , so don't worry about cutting it about if required), I thought if it was in the plastic box it might stop get other things dirty/greasy.

Yes, but only for long trips where I think that getting a replacement maybe a pain.

i'd guess you'd need spacers for the bolts unless i'm missing something. a friend has an SLK with space saver, first time she came to fit it the bolts went so far through the hub they locked the back wheel solid, had to have the RAC out to recover the car. a right royal pain in the butt.

she was more annoyed by the fact she actually was capable of changing the wheel but was let down by a crappy piece of kit

My dealer has ordered the parts so that I can take my car along and they will try the spare on the car to make sure no problems with the wheel nuts etc. Getting it done this Thursday when they sort the TMC so I'll let you know how I get on

What's the score if you have say half worn tyres on the car and you put the spare on one side that is a new tread. I was under the impression that this would cause big problems to the gearbox. Is the reason they put the foam compressor in the back to avoid this from happening.

i wouldn't think so, other flavours with quattro have spare wheels. it's probably more to do with saving money
