Have an iPod and keep your CD changer

Came across this:

That means you can keep your CD changer and have an iPod, being able to switch between the two, and you can control the iPod from the headunit. Aswell as having an Aux audio in & USB stick socket. Quite pricey at £170 or so. Has anyone fitted one of these to their RNS-E?
I would imagine you could fit the brackets/ports on the shelf that houses the DVD case alondside the CD changer in the glove box.

Glyn, this is quite interesting but haven't heard good feedback for the way the Audi system handles (so to speak) the iPODs. I was thinking of adding a system like this one, but I was told that the control is just the basics (not even the song title on the Concert CD console) and you can only have 6 playlists (kind of the 6 CDs in the changer). Things like that.. pretty ugly nowadays havinf a car like that not being able to have a "native" iPOD or even understand MP3 players. Anyways, maybe I'm asking too much.. If you install it and you get good results with the iPOD, then I'd be very interested!!

Hmmm.......while we're on the subject, does anyone know if this would work with our RNS-Es???

Looks good if it did:

Can't see how the Kenwood jobby would work with any Audi HU, but the Dension Gateway 400 mentioned above is a good piece of kit, I have fitted many Dension Gateway 500's and a couple of 300's (400's without the CD changer option). But I have yet to fit any 400's. The nice thing is the unlocking of the Ipod on CD 6 to hand control back to the Ipod. The Audi Ipod interface has this feature disabled.

So does this mean the 400 doesn't have all the annoying features of the factory fit Audi iPod option? E.g. Playlist issues.

Does it also come with cradles for different sizes of iPod, as I have a 60gb video and my wife has a nano?

If so, my only question would be... Where can I get one!

'fraid not!

At least with the 400 when you select CD6 the iPod GUI works (on the Audi iPod adapter it's disabled).

The 6 CD and no track names restrictions are because ALL iPod adapters for the RNS-E (currently) connect via the CD changer port - and the Audi CD changer port doesn't support CD Text, so all it can do is display 2 digit track numbers on 6 CD's.

So the iPod has to be "made to look like" 6 CD's and the track numbers wrap around after 99.
