Does anybody know if the Standard RS4 B7 engine can take advantage of the higher Octane of BP 102 ?

A Porsche can't unless remapped

I would imagine it can't unless the knock sensor is adjusted, and probably a few other ECU settings as well.

I do a lot of racing each season, and therefore a lot of rolling road sessions.

The engine on my old Alfa is set up to take advantage of Sunoco RSR (a race fuel we get at the meetings themselves).

However, since this is not always available, we did a lot of testing with various 'pump' fuels, including Optimax, BP102, and Tesco high octane. On each test, all data was compared 'like for like' and all fuel drained between rolling road sessions (each of seven or eight runs).

The fuel that actually gained us 3-4BHP reliably (this on a 140BHP 1300cc Alfa engine) was, er...........Tesco!

Of course, YMMV, and I certainly have no link whatsoever with Tesco, but thought it was interesting. The chap at the Rolling road said he had seen similar improvements with the fuel on various Subarus and TVRs. Strange but true!!

I have a tesco around the corner from me who sell the high octane stuff so my new beauty has only had that in it so far. A guy I know who runs a rolling road did a full test last summer and found that it (tesco) was by far the best of Shell, BP and other supposedly higher octane fuels.

FYI, the Tesco fuel is actually made by Greenergy. you can order direct from their website.

The RS4 ECU will adapt to higher quality fuel on its own, however to maximise the potential of using 102 fuel you could advance the ignition further using vag-com (but be careful, as the ECU will only <beep> a certain amount). Best to take it to someone who knows what they are doing!
