Exhaust options

Hey guys;
Long time lurker, first time poster.
Greetings from across the pond.
I just picked up a Sprint Blue RS4, after having "borrowed" one for our Bullrun road rally (
www.bullrun.com)
I've seen some posts about exhausts and wanted to tell you that here in America, the Milltek has just been released and independent dynos showed 20+ hp.
I actually work for a competitor of them, MagnaFlow, and our RS4 exhaust is due out any day now. HP levels are slightly better, but the price is about half.
If you're interested in one, contact our distributor over there in the UK,
www.magnaflow.co.uk
Anyway, the real reason I'm posting is to ask for your help finding a link to DSM for B7 RS4 ECU tuning.

Sorry about the UK MagnaFlow link.
Go here to view the exhaust;
http://www.magnaflow.com/04sound/04sport.asp then scroll down to the Audi RS4 video clip.
The system's price in the US will come in at about $1100USD retail, I'm not sure what Nemesis UK (Our MagnaFlow coporate partner) will be selling it for.
Thanks for the info on DMS...I sent them an email.

It certainly sounds good as does the price!
Would like to hear feedback from real customers of any aftermarked exhaust for the RS4. Its Christmas and I'm in the market for a present for myself

why is it that wive's would never consider buying you a new exhaust as a present?
cheers,
- Dean

I just

my Milltek. There product and service is just fantastic. Looks OEM from the rear too.
The Magnaflow looks like it's quad tailpipes and not ovals. Why make the car look like an S4?

Are you saying that the horsepower levels for the magnaflow are slightly better than stock, or slightly better than the Milltek?

That would completely rule out the Magnaflow as far as I'm concerned.
For me an aftermarket exhaust MUST have oval tailpipes and be valved.

Interesting points.
In America, many prefer to have their aftermarket components look like aftermarket components. Therefore, it didn't seem like that was the best path to follow, but that aside, we were more concerned with the fact that the factory tip is a single walled tip. In short, it'll turn gold/brown in short order. The decision was made to go to a double walled, double tip at that time. But considering our system is half the price of the Milltek, those who really must have the oval tips could easily add aftermarket oval tips.
With respect to the valves, it was determined that the new exhaust sounded so good (and was tolerable at all levels) that there was no need to carry this feature over. In fact, to do so would've meant a radical redesign of the muffler and the internals would be counter-productive to making power. This is part of the reason why we saw more than 20hp increase from the catback swap alone.
In addition, many have told us that they could hear NO difference on the valved system at anything above idle. I concur.
In any case, I'll share all your thoughts with the development team and I thank you kindly for the input.
Cheers,

I disagree about no difference on the valved system. I can certainly hear a difference in tone when the S button is pressed.
Not sure about your pricing claims either. You state that the exhaust costs $1100. The Milltek non-valved system is £895. So are you claiming that in the UK your exhaust will cost £450?

I, and everyone who has been in my car, can CLEARLY hear the difference when the S button is pressed all the way from idle up to, well not sure exactly but LOTS of, rpm.
Not only is the character of the exhaust note different (much deeper and more menacing), but also the volume is louder.
When I've got the S button pressed my wife tells me she can hear me coming home from much further away!
So if you're hearing no difference on the stock system with the valves open or closed then I would suggest you have a faulty system on the car.

No I think he is saying that the exhuast isnt any louder without the valve system. so you are getting 20bhp extra for dumping the valve system. without the sacrifice of the exhuast being ridiculously loud..... obviously you cant then have it in "quiet" mode.
Thats my interpretation.

So why did he say this?

That's quite clearly talking about the valved system...

I think he's talking about the Milltek valved system, not the OEM one.

Sorry I wasn't clearer.
What I meant to say was:
Most people agree that you can hear no difference in the valved stock system at anything above idle, at least inside the car.
The gain of 20hp does not appear to come from JUST the simple removal of the valved system (as in, when you replace the stock valved mufflers with an aftermarket catback system), some power is gained by changing the stock pipes, which are crimped/restricted significantly just in front of the mufflers.
On the MagnaFlow system, additional power is gained by using an X-style pipe upstream of the mufflers.
In my car, I still hit the S button (and I have the MagnaFlow cat-back on my car) and enjoy the more crisp throttle response, but my exhaust system is the same volume level, button on or off (obviously because the valves are gone).
I do not know what the UK price will be. Please contact Nemesis racing for details, they are the exclusive distributor for us in the UK and you'll eliminate the middle men if you end up purchasing from them.
In America, the price will be around $1100 retail...the street price could conceivably be even lower, but until first article items come off the line, I won't have that info.
I can say this: I've driven a pair of RS4's for nearly 10,000 miles, both with and without our exhaust. The power is superb, the sound is stellar. From what I can see, the Milltek system appears to be louder but offers similar power levels...and oval tips.
If I can provide more information, I'll be happy to offer as subjective views as I can based on my direct experiences.

That's what I thought you meant, and which I have to disagree with.
On a trailing throttle there is hardly any difference inside the car with the valved stock system, but as soon as you are on load the difference inside the car with the valved stock system is clear and obvious in both volume and tone. That's not just my view - it's what everyone who has been in my car says too.
It makes me wonder if the US valved stock system is different to the EU valved stock system?
