RS4 topspeed NOT limited (as per gentlemans agreement)

I have just read the road test done by CAR magazine in RSA - according to them it would seem Audi has (once again), broken the 'gentlemamns agreement' by the German car manufacturers to electronically limit the topspeed to 250km/h or 155mp/h. They clocked the test vehicle at 267km/h true speed and that was at altitude - 1400m asl.

Anybody else pushed this limit?

Before mine was remapped the speed limiter kicked in at 170MPH on the speedo and 164 on my GPS system. I have only had the opportunity once since I had the car remapped but could see traffic ahead so had to let off, saw 177 on gps and 181/182 on speedo, the car was still pulling up to that speed albeit slowlyish.

Dj - more courage than me mate. Done max 130MPH so far as I seriously lack handling skills at that speed. (Need a few Audi driving experience courses first). In essense what you are saying the 155MPH limiter did NOT kick in on your off-the floor unit?

Correct, had a few M3's M5 etc and they all seem to go round to approx 165/170 on the clock.

I have heard that some of these limiters (BMW, Merc, Audi) only apply to the the top gear - in our case 6th but are unlimited in 5th. What gear where you in?

B5 maxed out at indicated 170 mph on speedo, GPS reading was 163 so it must be fair to say that the german gentleman at Audi have slightly longer legs than Merc, my E55 used to flash its dash light at 160 on the nose..

I have had mine hit 170 in 5th and then when i change it to 6th it wont go any faster!! Very frustrating when there is no one on a long straight stretch of motorway late at night!!!

Private motorway that is :bigblink: Not too hard to have the limiter removed/revised........

Simple1 - I would recon 170 is about max with or without the limiter. Do you believe a higher topend can be achieved?

I have managed 165 in fifth gear at 8150 rpm on four or five separate occasions and 172 in sixth with plenty still to come. On one occasion we were chasing a friend in a 997 C2S and gaining slightly before lifting. The Porsche hit an indicated 160 and we touched 165 on the same section. I would estimate a realistic 185 top end on a long enough road.

I think the Autocar road test recorded a max of 163mph which suggests that you can certainly clear 160mph even with the limiter. I was talking to someone on the Audi stand at Goodwood FOS who said that without any limiter you were talking around 180mph.

The top speed limiter in the B7 RS4 is programmed from the factory at 261.017 km/h exactly, which translates into 163.13 mph. This is the speed measured by the ECU, which may not be 100% true in terms of GPS speed.

MRC, I heard somewhere that there is another limiter around 282 kph have you taken a B7 over that on the rollers and have you experienced this?!?!

As far as I can see in a stock B7 RS4 file I have here, there is no 282kph top speed limit anywhere. I do know however that MTM don't de-restrict the top-speed limiter and only set it at 282km/h for tire reasons mainly I think.
