bucket or recaros

Post by markygrace » Sun Nov 19, 2006 5:27 pm

some advice please.

Have just ordered black RS4 Avant with bucket seats. not sure though of the pros and cons of the buckets as opposed to the recaros.
probably still early enough to change the order if anyone can point me in the right direction.
Also, which leaves the most legroom in the back?
Thanks
Mark

Any other advice on which options are worthwhile would also be great. i am based in the isle of man without an audi dealer, so difficult to see the real thing! [/b]

Perhaps obvious advice but for such a purchase I'd think it prudent to have a look and sit and drive in the two types of seats available.

When I ordered mine almost a year ago that wasn't really an option.

Also, any specific advice will be very subjective as the bucket seats do not suit every frame. From what I remember on comments earlier this year on this subject, it would be difficult to predict whether the buckets would suit you as it isn't entirely down to weight and / or height.

i tried a car in worcester a few weeks ago with buckets which were fine.
i am a fairly average build, but wondered whether the recaros might be more comfortable?

which did you go for, and are you happy with them?

remember, if it bothers you of course, the wearing of the buckets will be considerably more apparent, they are not that easy to get in and out of without crushing the bolsters on entry/exit...

I tried both and went for the Recaros. Both comfortable when in although buckets a bit tight for me but I found I preferred the easier getting in and out of the Recaros. The buckets have a pronounce side cushion which is harder to negotiate! I think there is more rear space with Recaros.

I don't own a car yet ...but I am not sure which either.

When I sat in a bucket seat car (the one with a straight eight and 450bhp motor in Audi West London) I kept stabing the back of my leg as I sat in the seat. After a few minutes I found a way to get in cleanly, but would imagine this would be difficult in a carpark.

I tried both and went for the Recaros. The side bolsters on the buckets made getting in & out very difficult, and the padding on the buckets is thinner which aggravated my lower back pain (I have a slipped disc). For me 30 minutes in the buckets was painful, but 5 hours in the Recaros is no problem.

Just out of interest do the Recaros (presume these are the standard S4 seats) still have the same manual and electric combinations as the B7 RS4, or are they fully electrically adjustable. Also, are the Recaro's still connected to the'S' button?

Not sure about the S-botton, but the recaros are fully electric I believe, the buckets have to moved back and forward by lever, as does height adjustment, so only control on bucket which is electric is seat back.

They're very similar to the S4 seats, but trimmed differently.

I had silver silk nappa leather seats in my S4 and they were all silver with the S4 logo on the backrest.

I've got silver silk nappa Recaros in my RS4 and they have contrasting black piping and the RS4 logo on the backrest.

There's no moving bolsters, so nothing happens on the seats when you press the S button.

ALL the adjustments are electric (front/rear, front height, rear height, backrest angle, lumbar height, lumbar depth) - but in the UK we can't order the seat memory option (WHY NOT!!!!!????)

Seat memory is available in the RS4 Cab but not the Saloon or Avant. On my S4 Avant I have that and electic folding mirrors. If the RS4 Avant could be ordered with both then that's what I'd be in now (not exactly as I don't have wireless broadband).

Do a search under my name the answers are out there, I sold my car after 3 months due to the discomfort the buckets had caused.
