Recall for engine fault in RS4???

Post by oilman4345 » Thu Nov 09, 2006 10:20 pm

My new RS4 was complete and awaiting shipment from Germany.
Today I received a call from my dealer to say that it has been delayed by up to 5 weeks as Audi have just found an engine issue with the RS4 and will fix it befiore shipping the car. They will give me a high calibre loan car until mine is shipped.
Just a heads up, and does anyone else know about this??????

I hear that they are experiencing early signs of durability issues of such a high-revving V8, recall possibly reducing the rev-limiter?
Present:...

Past:

I would think, it is the problem of that particular cars engine and not a major recall, the rev-limiter reduction would be very unrealistic.

If true, aren't durability issues supposed to be discovered / ironed out during all the testing phases including all the sub-zero and hot weather driving? Most RS4's will have only covered a few thousand miles!

If they have to lower the rpm then they'll also have to lower the bhp claim. I'd be very surprised is that's what they do.

Peak power isn't at full rpm. For example, S3 max power @ 5,900rpm (prob revs to 7,100rpm), RS6 max power @ 5,700rpm.

Another likely reason is that they have discovered they have had a "bad batch" of a particular component and therefore have to modify all the cars with that faulty part in them. This happened on an M3 I had many years ago only 400 cars were affected, they checked all the cars and replaced the engines on the ones with the problem part (mine included) this wa sabout 2 years into the run of that type of M3 and no cars older or newer were affected!

Spoke to RS4 tech at local dealer, they have no knowledge of any problems which affect all cars, Ii am sure we will hear if there is.........
Am at a jolly with Audi on Tuesday at Silverstone playing with their new S range and R8, will ask a few of the Audi UK honchos what this is all about..........

hmmmmmm, nice..... not what the dealer told me.... oh well, their bacon rolls are nice and another chance to break Audi's Rs4 sounds like good enough reason to go and play........
