RS4 - White Elephant ??

Dealers aren't shifting these, with way too many on forecourt and cancelled orders. I was interested in an Avant, but having looked at the market I seriously believe these cars to be something of a 'white elephant' for Audi.
Had a new RS6 Avant in 2002, excellent car and held value well and currently have 2.0 FSI Cab so a big fan.
RS4 is a superb car but over short term there can be pretty much no worse place to put your money. All cars depreciate, but I think we're in for a shocker where RS4's are concerned.

There's 3 been sitting in my local dealership for a while.
Lovely car

not so sure about the "white elephant" status, but I think there's gonna be a "lot of car for your money" available in a couple of years time...

The prices dont seem to be dropping though, do you reckon dealers have been greedy and over stocked.

"White Elephant" my ar*e. Sounds like a lame attempt to talk down the prices. These cars have lost virtually nothing in almost a year. If you want a cheap four-door supercar look elsewhere.

Nothing like an intelligent response to an opinion. Why on earth would I want to talk down prices when I'm not considering one having seen the state of the market ??. They'll be good value in less than a year I can assure you.

If you're not in the market then why start the thread? Go do your due diligence before you start scare-mongering. Vested interests still come to mind.

I was just going to say the same LegalEagle.
Claims of "white elephant" clearly not backed up by what's happening on the forecourts with exceptionally high prices being demanded. So, conversely to what you said Robbo66, if you have genuinely seen "the state of the market" you'll know that prices of the RS4 have hardly budged from list for low mileage cars, and even higher mileage ones are still holding their value amazingly well.

I started the thread as I was in the market until this morning..is that OK with you?? Just because you've got one of these doesn't preclude others having an opinion..vested interests also come to mind where you're concerned.

Put it this way, the B7 certainly isn't commanding over list and theres plenty on dealers forecourts waiting to be shifted. Certainly wasn't the case when the B5 came out. Infact do you think the B7 will command 50% of its price in 5 years time like the B5? I doubt it...
I'm deffo gonna get one, but only when prices settle.

Its easy........... if you dont like loosing money, dont buy cars.........
I paid £48K for my B5 in March 2001, cars value today, probably with right buyer today, worth little more than £20K. It was driven everyday for three years, and has had rather an easier life since, never the less it has just under 70K miles on it. So thats more than 50% loss. B7 is unknown so far, and as always, a load of hipe about prices......... and cars demanding premiums..... seen it all before with the B5 but that was limited production run.... and the RS2....... and the first TT's......
Cars of these type will loose money quickly to start, then even out, so buy only if you intend to hold on to it for a while, and not a method of making a fast buck............ As for white elephant, I think you may have just got that a little bit wrong............
Keep it nice........

Obviously construed by more than one as so.........and as a new poster, probably better to be civil first before entering into exchanges with that type of statement..... regardless of it being posted on another forum or not...

Obvious question is, if you dont want to buy the car, why slate it?

I'm just enjoying driving my RS4.
It's quite fun watching people who expect a car to not drop in value be disappointed!!!
In three or five years time I expect I'll still be grinning every time I drive my RS4. Whether it has dropped to 50% or 30% of it's original value is of only secondary importance to me. I buy cars to drive them and enjoy them, and I know I will lose lots of money - but I will have had a lot more fun in my RS4 than in any previous car I have ever owned!!!

Where are these said cars? I am after either a saloon or an avant and I can't see any on the Audi system.
