Anyone considered upgrading the RS4 Alarm\Imobiliser

Post by definatelymaybe » Thu Oct 05, 2006 5:06 pm

Looking to take delivery in the coming week of my new RS4 Avant and was wondering if anyone had considerd, or in fact has upgraded the standard fit Audi alarm system?

I was thinking of replacing with a Clifford including the BlackJaxx feature that would prevent Hi-jaking.
Has anyone had simlar thoughts?

Primarily it will be used by the other half during the day to transport our little girl, so an anti-hijaking feature is really going to ease my mind somewhat.

Also do the doors auto-lock at 10mph as standard or does this have to be configured using a VAGCom?

System conforms to Cat 1 so it locks doors at 15 MPH, this can be changed in Vag Com, to 10-30 MPH... the latter not advisable if you live in a big city....... I would not bother with retrofit alarms, I have had more problems than enough with them when factory units have been disturbed. There are other options to the Hi-Jack situation including Tracker upgrades and supplimentary fit units.... Get the dealer to change the silent arm feature to on, the system then bleeps quietly to let you know its armed rather than two tone bleep that wakes the area at Midnight and tells the thief hiding in the hedge what alarm system you have fitted.

Why would you need an anti Hi-jack alarm?
When did soemone last get hi-jacked in the UK? I don't think its ever happened outside of the daily mail.

After fits are usually a waste of cash in most circumtances. If you really think someone wants your car that badly nothing will stop them, trust me from what I know literally nothing will stop them. Galling I know but spend a bit more on the insurance. Thats what its there for isn't it?

Car-jacking is increasingly common, throughout the country especially on cars such as the RS4.

Have a look at the i-mob system. The anti car-jack system it employs is very powerful.

I must say it is nothing I've heard of in the UK, standard alarm system will more than suffice.

Probably the craziest statement I've read on this forum. Ever.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.

??????

What about the scumbag that was targeting people on this very forum? Myself included? OK stealing cars at people's homes by beating them up may not constitute the definition of "Hijack" but it seems a very good reason to me to buy a system like Blackjax.

And if only an example of actual carjacking counts, then here's one. Some may remember the story.

And he was a great friend of mine.

Statements like no one ever gets hijacked (outside of The Daily Mail) by people who drive RS4's in LONDON of all places are, in my opinion, naive. Then again, "It'll never happen to me".

Bob targeting people at home is very common I would agree but car hijacking certainly not in the UK from my knowledge anyway.

Sorry for Hijacking your thread "definatelymaybe" was just trying to give my opinion.

Up until recently I didn't think car Hijaking was a major problem, but it seems to be on the increase in the south of the country. (and I would imagine else where)

I note your location is London SW - I'm actually in a small village just outside of Reading and heard (just 2 weeks ago) of a car Hijaking in a local town. 3 guys hijaked a 4x4 from a guy in broad daylight at 11am in the morning!
Thats just the latest, I have heard of many more cases in the region and I wouldn't imagine that it's not just localised.

Obviously the idea or thought of the anti-hijaking device is to allow the theif to drive off a safe distance before the car just stops. Far enough away from myself and family, and god forbid if the kids were'nt able to get out quick enough!

I recognise your opinion and that's what I asked for by posting on here - so no worries, we're all entitled to our own views :O)

K5Turbo - did you have the entire standard system removed and replaced by the Clifford or did they manage to add on parts?

This is an incident that sprang to mind when I started reading this thread, as I live and work in the area:

"Recent attacks have included estate agent Tim Robinson, 25, who was stabbed to death last month as he was parking his £20,000 Audi in Battersea, south London."

This was an incident in 2002, and there were several in the area around the same time. Haven't seen to much in the media recently, but they seem to be concentrating on the fact that theft of keys is becoming more common.

Personally, I think I would spend the money on a good Tracker.

That was the incident I posted above, and it was utterly terrible he was a great guy and a personal friend. I think the scumbags responsible are out already, but don't get me started on that...

Oh, and here's more evidence that it happends - I didn't have to look far either.
