Suede issues

My RS4 came with the suede steering wheel and gearknob. I probably wouldn't have ordered it with them but the car was a cancelled order.

It looked great at first but then I realised the handbrake was still leather and should have been suede. My dealer informed me some time ago that Audi would indeed change it but I'm still waiting.

Problem is now that the suede is wearing quite a lot after 6500 miles. The right side of the gearknob is bald and has lost all sense of a nice soft suede feel. The steering wheel is looking tired as well.

I guess some would say it looks better when its worn but not me. Am now contemplating buying a new gearknob and steering wheel and ebaying the old ones.........I expect it could quite an expensive exercise though.

Does anybody else have any views?

Cheers

I was not aware the steering wheels are suede why dont you wait for them to replace instead of wasting your money.

They are suede if you buy the suede option! They're not replacing the steering wheel or gearknob

I'm glad you posted this - I've always suspected they would wear quickly...

Can you not claim as defective as only a few months old?

Yes, sounds like a warranty claim to me

I'm going to ring the dealer this morning and see what transpires. Am guessing the best I'm gonna get is replacements of the same!

Will let you all know the outcome, but if anyone is thinking of getteing them as standard be warned...the gearknob especially wears out very quickly.

B5 took about 2 years before it started to look shabby, have tried a few tricks mentioned on the forum, but after five years, they look very shabby and in need of a conversion to leather I think.
