Sports Suspension Plus
Has anyone opted for the sports suspsension plus?
Is it worth the extra £500?
Does it affect the ride quality much?
I'm just about to confirm the final build spec of my Avant and was wondering if there are any words of advice or anybodys "wish I had gone for....." after thoughts?
So far,
Avant in Phantom Black
Tech Pack
Carbon Inlay
Heated seats
Considering:
Sports suspension
TV (but this is only analogue?) does anyone know if there is a digital equivelant? Or possible after market upgrade to play DVD's?
Optics Pack - but not sure of its appeal on black?
Any pointers greatfully accepted ;O)

RE: Sports Suspension Plus
I have heard good reports re the Sports suspension. I do not have it but will say thta the normal supspension is absolutelty superb, the car sits well and is superbly balanced on throttle through the twistys. Not sure how stiff the SS is but you don't want to have your bones rattled and lose your fillings on the way to the shops.

I have SS+ on my RS4 and now done 4k miles and think the suspension is one of the best things about this car.

Re: Sports Suspension Plus
The standard suspension is softer than on my previous S4, but the handling is much better - it seems that DRC has allowed quattro mgbH to set the suspension softer and allow the DRC to stiffen it when cornering enthusiastically.definatelymaybe wrote:Has anyone opted for the sports suspsension plus?

I have a Phantom Black Avant with a similar spec to yours, but I didn't go for the heated seat option. Why not? Heated front seats are standard, I didn't see the point in paying to heat the rear seats on the very rare occasions I have any rear seat passengers.
No digital TV option will ever be offered on the B7, Audi have "let it be known" that the B8 will have the MMI system and hence the option of digital TV.
To play DVD's you need to add an external DVD player. If you don't have the TV option then you need an extra non-Audi adapter. Either way you'll need another adapter if you want to be able to wach the DVD on the sat nav screen while driving (and that adapter makes the sat nav work poorly since it breaks the speed signal that the sat nav uses).
I didn't go for the optics pack - I like the "bling" of the standard RS4 too much. You also lose the RS4 door mirrors with the optics pack, and for me they are an important difference between an RS4 and an A4/S4.
RE: Re: Sports Suspension Plus
FI the optic pack removes all the chrome but does leave the silver RS4 mirrors. see the pictures of simple1's RS4...

PetrolDave is this "adapter" readily available?
Also I see you collected your RS4 from Camberley ;O) Thats where mines coming from!
What TV setup (if any) have you opted for? Aftermarket?

The adapter is a Dietz 1417 (and a Dietz 1280 for the video in motion fix) and can be found quite widely on the web.definatelymaybe wrote: To play DVD's you need to add an external DVD player. I had the OEM TV on my first S4 and didn't use it that often and didn't miss it on my A4 or second S4, so I haven't bothered with TV on the RS4.
I've always been very happy with both sales and service at Camberley Audi - been a customer for over 6 years now, and on my fifth Audi (S3, S4, A4 TDi, S4, RS4).
RE: Re: Sports Suspension Plus
When did you pick up the RS from Camberley? I was down at the service dept the other day and there was a shiney black avant with black optics I think awaiting PDI. Also saw the new S6 which was sweet and the Q7 looks so much better in the flesh!
If you get it serviced there, a friend of mine called Stuart works on the specialist cars like RS and I can thoroughly recommend him as someone who loves these cars

Dave, would you still need the TV option with the adapter?PetrolDave wrote:The adapter is a Dietz 1417 (and a Dietz 1280 for the video in motion fix) and can be found quite widely on the web.definatelymaybe wrote: To play DVD's you need to add an external DVD player. I want to achieve output from a separate DVD player direct to the Sat NAV screen. Does the TV option do anything else other than supply a tuner?

Re: Sports Suspension Plus
The TV option also provides two AV inputs - which makes connecting a DVD player easier. Without the TV tuner you need the Dietz 1417 adapter to provide an AV input and "fool" the RNS-E (sat nav) into looking at it for the DVD player.definatelymaybe wrote:Dave, would you still need the TV option with the adapter?

With either option you get the problem that the screen blanks when you go over 5mph - that's what the other Dietz box (the Dietz 1280) solves, but at the cost of making the sat nav be slow at updating your position (because the speed signal is filtered out). So if you have one of these, you need to fit an on/off switch for it. It's a case of EITHER TV/DVD in motion OR reliable sat nav - on the A3/A4 we can't have both (there are some guys in Germany who claim they can change the coding of the RNS-E to solve this, but it means taking your car to them to get it done - and on the Audi navigation forums I frequent a lot nobody has yet had it done).

I've got SS+ on mine. I do love it. But it's not the nicest of ride if your plodding down a bumpy road. However if you speed up it becomes aot smoother :S
RS4 (B7) Tech pack. SS+. Auto boot. Cool Box.
