Any news on the supercharged RS4 Plus yet?
Any news on the supercharged RS4 Plus yet?
Seems the logical next step with performance on the standard car lacking at the moment.
Judging by the response from my dealer, I feel in my waters that there may well be a 4 plus at some point, with the development of the Dsg/Ntronic gearbox..... they will need a platform other than the R8 to sell the tehnology, but it wont be until the end of the B7 production run.... 2008/9 maybe....

Can't believe what's being said on this thread!JustinM wrote:Seems the logical next step with performance on the standard car lacking at the moment.
You've got the fastest compact executive car on the market, one of the fastest production cars period, superlatives about the engine from the international motoring press and you're all complaining about performance!
You're all mad!

Not completely yet.........always fun to look at the next step.....I know its early day yet for my car, but my B5 is much quicker, less thirsty and more fun to drive....... but then I have not been able to push the B7 yet.mjh123 wrote:[

I'm just about at the end of my running in period (wnated to do it by the book) so equally will find out very soon what it's got to give.
Suffice to say that one or two motoring journalists have said that many people could happily drive the RS4 below say 4000rpm and be very happy, not knowing there's an entirely different car higher up the rev range.
My initial comment on picking the car up was that a learner could drive it, such was the relaxed nature of the engine.
I know what you're all saying but you're still all mad!

ok...... I can live with that comment

I think it is the fact that once you have run the car in and because it is NA you have no where to go with uprating the power. May be another 20 BHP tops.simple1 wrote:Not completely yet.........always fun to look at the next step.....I know its early day yet for my car, but my B5 is much quicker, less thirsty and more fun to drive....... but then I have not been able to push the B7 yet.mjh123 wrote:[

Interesting that the B5 is "much quicker...."

I should add that the B5 is not standard......and probably 30 bhp ahead of the B7...dace wrote: Interesting that the B5 is "much quicker...."

RS4 B5 v B7
I drove a B7 last weekend. It looked great outside in phantom black. The interior feels special and is fully up to date. The engine sound gurgling at idle is fantastic. The steering wheel feels spot on. Pressing sport and the seat gripping you feels so right too.
I pulled away gently. The engine sounded even better. "Jesus", I thought, every box is ticked here. Mentally I started doing the sums regarding a trade in from my now very dated feeling B5...
But when the engine was warm, and I floored it on a dual carriagway... smooth power, lovely noise, BUT where's the pace???
I know I'm being greedy and wanting the B7 to crush the B5 in every department, but here's hoping an RS4 Plus will come.
Also - I'd love to be shown that a well run-in B7 dramatically improves its straightline pace, but right now I agree with Simple1 and a mildly tuned B5 is much quicker.

It takes me a few thousand miles to get used to driving any new car, give it a little time before making that judgement. The extra 30bhp & tuning would make a difference how much who knows, I think your in the ideal position to tell.simple1 wrote:I should add that the B5 is not standard......and probably 30 bhp ahead of the B7...dace wrote: Interesting that the B5 is "much quicker...."
Re: RS4 B5 v B7
I don't think you can expect the naturally aspirated v8 to outclass to twin-turbo of the B5 on power. First because with the turbos you can always find more power and more torque.njw123 wrote: I know I'm being greedy and wanting the B7 to crush the B5 in every department, but here's hoping an RS4 Plus will come.

It targets another kind of pleasure: high rev, fantastic noise and an incredible chassis.
The question is to know what you are looking for. Some people prefer the ultimate thrust. In that case, it is better to look for a used B5 than to buy a B7.
