Oil

Post by Davey_B » Thu Jun 29, 2006 5:32 pm

Quick question. Car needs oil, minimum showing on the stick. Don't have time to get to an Audi dealer, handbook MIA, what do I buy from Halfords/petrol station on the way home.

Cheers.

Eeek, something fully synthetic 0W30 I'd say, but don't shoot the messenger.

Is that a guess because I'd kinda like someone to read their manual so as I know for sure. Don't want to be mixing my oils.

Oh well, got to risk it, time to go home, it'll be fine until the weekend.

It's an educated guess to help you out mate, because you need oil and cannot get VAG spec. I've based it on what I know about oil and what Audi customer services told me when I was in a similar position a while back (with a 2.7tt S4).

Don't use olive oil, not even Taste The Difference. It's no good.

The manual states:
VW Spec 504 00 or alternatively 502 00 if you are on a fixed service interval.
Cheers,

I use Castrol Long life fully synthetic as recommended by Audi.

Hope that helps.

Go to a BP station , and buy Castrol EDGE 0W-30 - it has the VW codes on the bottle, and is the same as the Audi oil as the audi dealers use .

EDGE is the new brand name used to be called SLX longlife II

Oil light came on in my RS4 last week, whilst driving about on the south coast. Its now had 2L at 4900 miles .

it was £16.49 a litre !

I thought all RS4s had some oil in a leather bag in the boot, I know I have. It comes in 1 litre plastic bottles Had to get some more from my Audi dealers as after 2,000 miles has already used just over 1.5 litres

Rip off Audi - at my first (10,000) service, the oil change + VAT came to over £200, and that was with a 10% discount !!!!
