ECU limiting power until 1000miles

Post by deansheehan » Mon Jun 19, 2006 8:07 am

I've read two post on RS6.COM over the weekend that suggest, back by Audi Technical, that the RS4 ECU limits the engines power until 1000 miles when it opens up the flood gates.

Can nayone confirm this, and if so by how much as a whopping 30% was suggested?

I'm at 920miles by the way and loving every straight, every corner and with SS+ even every little bump.

cheers,
- Dean

Does your car not seem quick now then? If this is 'bo$$ox' and you don't get another 30%, you are going to be very disappointed if you are currently driving in 'full grunt' mode :(

But he shouldn't be driving in full grunt mode until he's covered the required running in miles as per users handbook AFAIK

This has to be a load of pony. Think of all the demo cars that are ragged to bits from day one........

It's the kind of thing you might imagine an ECU doing, gradually increase the rev limit and power delivered by the engine (and it is done on other cars I beleive) but was very skeptical when I heard of this especially the 30% suggestion.

My dealer told me to just make sure the engine was warm but other than that, drive it like its meant to be driven.

I've taken the middle ground, engine always warm before I boot it and then I've gradually increased the demands I make on the car. Partly because I need to work out what its handling characteristics are before I find myself facing the wrong way or in a ditch (never done that before :-))

Wise man, but having been a passenger in the car at Donnington, I would say impossible to do...........that was until the car spun at the start of the straight.......... :bigblink: It was being driven by an extremely skilled driver who was playing with the limits :notworthy:
I dont think the ecu has this capability, it may be related to the replacement plugs or the fact that engines are as tight as a duck's a**e and take a few thousand miles to loosen up.
