Not worth it..

Last night at 11-00 p.m. three men tried to break into my home while the wife and I were watching TV. We disturbed them and they ran off. Call me paranoid, but at that time of night they could only be after one thing, the keys. How much balls does it take to try and come into a house, knowing I'm in, watching TV, all the lights on.

So, after three weeks of ownership, (she's not even run in) I'm selling it. It just really isn't worth it, what would of happened if they'd got in?

So before the Autotrader ad. appears and the discussions start on here, it's me. Anyone genuinely interested should PM for details of the car.

Nasty, but glad you are OK. My house was turned over last year for the car but we were out.

This sort of scum are lazy, and may well never come back, chosing another easier target. Can't you garage the car?

Wish I could, but even then would it stop them. It's more about my peace of mind and the safety of my family, than how can I keep the car safe. You've got to feel safe in you own home, and if the car you drive matters more than that, its a sad day. So the car goes.

Must admit it was one of my reservations.....with the non folding mirrors it would not fit in my garage.

Family is a bit more valuable than the car....sad world in which we live. Police are not doing enough to get these organised gangs.

I don't think it's the car to blame, that could have happen if you had an A4 in the drive. It's probable that your house just looked easy pickings as they were walking by.

thats one of the reasons that i opted for a B5 S4 avant, rather than the new B7 RS4 avant. i figured that most thieves wouldnt be bothered trying to steal a 5 year old car worth about £10k, compared to a new car at £50k.

manufacturers are to be appluaded for the better car security now fitted as standard, however, it now means thieves need to steal the keys to get the car, hence more burglery related car thefts.....

these people need to be strung up, but out legal system is just too leinient on them.

Such a shame, but if you don't feel safe you're doing the right thing. Trouble is is scumbags 1, Law abiding citizen who works for a living 0.

Not car related, but my wife was mugged on her doorstep a while back, so we moved to the country - after I had done this:

http://www.crimepetition.org.uk

Can't say it changed the universe, but we had thousands of signatures, which were passed on to local MP's. Anyway the point being we're trying now to do something to highlight car crime if I can pull in the relevant favours!

Scum of the earth... These kind of people should be used for Pharmaceutical experiments such that they return something to the sick and societies future generations, also stops all these protests about animal cruelty and digging up dead grannies.

I have had reservations previously when making my decision on various cars, ultimately my decision was that you only live once and these buggers should'nt stop you enjoying life, if it gets nicked then thats what trackers and insurance is ultimately for...

Car jacking and breaking into your house is a real dillemma though; a car is worthless in comparison to the safety of your family. I have always told the Mrs to hand over the keys without a fuss if she ever gets car-jacked. A friend of mine in Stafford awoke in the night to find three blokes in his bedroom demanding the keys to his M5 and his wifes M3 and he also decided to sell both in the end.

sad indeed, and really sorry to hear about (another) such incident. It's one of the reasons I've not returned to the UK after living abroad (Germany 5 years and now Holland the last 10); I cant say its all roses here, but I think this sort of blatant car crime doesn't really happen here, there seems to be a lot more respect for people and their property within society. I love England and the good things, shame that these sort of wonkers spoil it :(

really like the idea about pharmaceutical experimentation !!

my ex wifes boyfriend tried to stab me with an 8inch bread knife last month luckily for him i was to quick and managed to dodge the blade twice and even managed a kick to his nuts..he then ran in his hse with my car keys..now the law see's him as the victim cos whilst trying to defend myself i dented his car and he's claiming 100,s of pounds in damages..all he got was a caution and i also got arrested for criminal damage..my point is the law is <beep> and god forbids they get into your hse for those keys but if they do and u defend your family and life your on your own...so although selling your car mite seem harsh it mite end up being for the best...really sorry to hear your news davey and good luck...

the law on defending yourself is just pants.....

i had a spot of bother at the house a few years ago, the coppers came round etc, and i was told that if MY alsation dog (big bugger) bit someone, then there is a good chance the thief could sue ME for damages... WTF is that all about? if the thief wasnt braking in, then there is no reason for the dog to attack him.....

anyway, the copper suggested i also buy a small rounders bat, and keep it by the bed for "emergency" use,now i'm a fairly big bloke, and the copper did suggest that should i ever use it on a scumbag, that i wipe it clean and give it to my wife to also hit the scumbag.... he said they would take a far more leinient view of a woman using it in self defence than a well built bloke...even thought the scumbag may still take action against me and the wife. if they didnt brake in, then they wouldnt get hurt.

at least in america, for all the problems they do have, at least your house is your own home and you have the RIGHT to defend it, even if you do shoot a burgler......

The police just don't have the resources to chase these people because they have to concentrate on more important matters like hiding in vans making sure no one drives at 44mph in a 40mph limit.

Thanks for all your comments, if it was just me I'd let the bastards in and introduce them to my trusted friend the basball bat. But it's not just me I have to think about these days, so until the people rise up and stop accepting this lawless society, I'm going to walk.

We'll, actually, I might buy a mini and an Ariel Atom for the weekends.
