Hi Guys

Just debating whether to take the plunge and order a RS4 from my local dealer but I have been reading some interesting stuff on fuel economy.

Most of my weekday driving is commuting to the office and back which works out to be 200 mile per week so i'm interested to hear from anyone who own's one what the true MPG for round town.

The reason for my interest is I've heard some scary MPG figures (i.e.11 mpg) on some other sites but i'm not sure if they are talking nonsense.

Also can you run them on standard 95 RON unleaded or does it have to be super unleaded.

Really appreciate any advice that is give.

Thanks in advance

Ian

Ian,

Got to say 11MPG is probably not far off the mark. All my miles have been urban so far and it's actually quite scary how much fuel I'm using. I reset the trip at the last fill up and I'm just under half a tank now having covered 80 miles. In fairness it's all slow stuff in traffic, apart from the odd blast on a country lane and no motoway miles at all yet, the oil barely gets warm enough for the 'not over 7000 rpm' light to go off most days.

Some of the other owners on here with a more realistic use might be getting more miles per tank. But for urban only driving, it's a killer.

As far as I know, you can use 95 RON but only occasionally if you're stuck. 98 RON is recommended.

find that very low in my estimation.....i too live 6 miles from work and enjoy using the car properly on longer runs and average 240 miles per tank....which works at around 19-20 mpg!

In fairness I'm probably the exception and I'm quite sure most "normal" use will get better MPG than me. I think shares in BP might be an option.

RS4 is not the car to buy if you want economy........... mind you niether is a 996tt......... 78 miles from a tank today......... but it was on a track :bigwave: Usually more like 280 with mix of driving. Many complaints were made when the B5 came out, mine averaged 18 mpg in daily use........

Had my RS4 for nearly 3 weeks. Am I right in thinking there are 2 fuel consumption indicators on the computer an instantaneous and an average (sorry haven't got round to reading the manual yet!)
If so a drive near my work revealed a rather scary 6mpg!

Yes there are. In fact there are 3, there's an instantaneous, one for the current journey and one that you need to manually reset when you want to otherwise it keeps averaging.

I quite often get down to 8mpg in the S4 when stuck in London traffic
