Could anyone tell me what advantage if any ceramic brakes have over the normal brakes in everyday driving as 4k seems a little expensive?

Everyday driving nothing.

RS4 driving, shorter stopping distances and longer pad life. Worth £4k? Not sure.

What is the difference in service life for discs and pads ?

Did i not see 100k for discs somewhere.

You will never ever need them for the road and unless you intend to take up racing, you will never need them on the track. Add cooling to your standard brakes.

It is, Porsche claimed something similar with their carbon ceramic (PCCD?) setup IIRC.

Not so. Having tracked a B5 RS4 for a few years, I pretty much know what's required. I am presuming the standard B7 RS4 6 pots are as good as Movit or AP on the B5. If so, you will never need anything more.

All that aside.....they do look very cool if you have the £4K to sapre !!!

how can you add cooling to your brakes?you mean aircooling?with air ducts and shafts?

one thing to bear in mind regarding ceramic brakes...is certainly on the porsches, they're a £5k option...and they say the disks will last for 200k miles or something.
but if a disk gets damaged (stone trapped between pad and disk maybe?) I was told by someone from porsche, at a porsche driving experience, they'd cost about 25k to replace.

If that is the case, its quite scarey, could end up with a number of cars being written off by insurers, because of damage to a wheel and thus brake disk.

Thanks for the advice, rang the dealer yesterday afternoon to see if i could put them on my order for the rs4 avant but they said to me do you want the good news or the bad news first! They said that unfortunately i couldnt add them on because on there computer data base the car order status was production. So iam assuming that the car could be 4 to 6 weeks away?? Is that correct?

and apparently Porsche do not warranty them either.... and there are cases of cracks appearing....... so it could get very expensive

I just ordered mine and the guy made no mention of ceramic brakes, can't even find out anything about them in the literature or web-site.
What else is an option that I don't know about and how do I find out about it?

somebody has put a link to the brochure on page 2 of the rs4 forum its about half way down. Thats how i saw the option!!
