Low Oil Warning

Post by Bradders » Sun Apr 23, 2006 11:39 am

Hi All,

Well, now at 1700miles, and still really enjoying this car, and I suddenly get a low oil warning light (yellow in colour). Have a couple of questions - don't have the manual to hand, as I am not at home at the moment, and as far as I know, Audi parts department is closed on a Sunday.

1). A trip to Halfords will hopefully yield a bottle of finest gloop - but which one do I buy?
2). Should I really be getting a low oil warning after so few miles??

Hope someone can help.

Cheers, Mark

Mark have you checked in the engine compartment, it might be on the oil lid or mentioned on a plate some where, at a guess 0W40?

Also check in your boot, under the floor where the bettery compartment is... you should have a spare bottle that came with the car IMO.

In the RS4 price/spec guide it says

"Audi use high-grade long-life oils such as Castrol SLX Longlife III"

When I used to own my Audi S3 the SLX stuff wasnt easy to come by and found it was available from dealers only.

Why not ring Audi HQ up and ask them you need oil URGENTLY, so maybe then can contact the nearest dealership for you to get some out of stock, just pay then and they can do the transaction on monday.

Cheers chaps. Checked under the boot floor - spare bottle is there - its Castrol SLX LongLife II (not III??). Will have to make sure I get another spare bottle from the dealers tomorrow. For future reference for anyone, the bottle also has SAE 0W-30, VW 503 00/506 00/506 01 written on it.

Cheers, Mark

FYI, almost every Sainsburys petrol station I've been to stocks Castrol SLX Longlife II for some reason (it's often not even available at Halfords).

Thanks for the info Pete. Not managed to get down to the dealers yet, so this is a real help.

Cheers, Mark
