Ordered RS4 today! Urgent help with spec please!

Post by fishface » Thu Apr 06, 2006 7:00 pm

Hello all.

Rung by dealer today to say they have a cancelled order that I can spec for June delivery. Have placed deposit on the basis that the car has to arrive by 30/6/06 at latest. I have to let him have spec in the next 48 hours.

1) Colour. I'm probably going for Black or Mugello

2) Seats. I would really prefer leccy Recaros for my £50k but am scared it may affect resale. I know this has been discussed at length but what are your thoughts?

3) Steering wheel. Though I love the RS4 wheel, I'd quite like a multi fuction one as it is so practical. But if I combine mfwheel with leccy recaros will this really spoil the look/resale

Many thanks all

ps I know I should spec the car the way I want it, but resale is important!

My opinion and my opinion only:

1 Perfect choices, only conceivable others would be Avus/Daytona
2. Recaros, dont think of other forum members, think of the many other mainstream punters (this is not a niche car anymore remember) that would prefer a sensible, more classy seat. Unfortunately they don't seem to be as good as the B5 RS4 or the RS6, which are just perfect, but still a better option.
3. Keep the RS4 steering wheel.
4. Get a proper RS and wait for the Avant :nodder:
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

If you look at current prices for used S4's and B5 RS4's, there does not seem to be much resale difference if different seats are specced. If it is comfort you are after, go for the electric ones. Plus there is more choice of trim options with these seats. The main options such as Sat Nav and CD changer are in the technology pack which I think every RS4 should have. I did like the standard steering wheel though, looks dead cool and feels great. Black would be my colour choice also.

Enjoy your new RS4, I tried it and it is a fantastic machine. Again, these are my opinions only.

Mugello is a very classy look on the B7 imo, and for resale you will be looking at maximising appeal.

Agree with Bob on most points, however on the seats you might want to consider which will become the perceived 'classic' option. Like the Tech Pack you need to consider what used buyers will consider to be the signature attributes for the B7. The 'comfort' Recaro's will be the safer bet, but most punters will associate the B7 with the introduction of bucket seats into the RS and imo this will be a plus in a used buyer's mind.

My point of view is the comfort Recaro's will make the car more 'liveable' with, but the marketplace will associate the buckets as the must have.

If I was buying, I'd go with the buckets.

I would go for the recaros but go and find some buckets and sit in them (I'm too big for them as are many people).
Maserati GranTurismo GTS Auto, S3 Sportback, TT2 3.2 Roadster, Disco3 for the heavy stuff.

I couldn't agree more. Sat on ( couldn't decribe it as 'in') the buckets and decided that there was no way I could drive that car with those seats for more than half an hour. You can't sell a car if the buyer won't fit in the seats.

It amazes me how easy it is to buy a car with the wrong seats. I had a 987S Boxster for much of last year but sold it because the sports seats were killing my back. The sport seats were a cheap option, lots of people go for them and they didn't feel too bad in the showroom....but

I've had a B6 S4 Avant for nearly three years now and can't praise the recaros enough. Just a shame they don't have memory on the RS4.

Thanks guys. I've ordered it with comfort recaros. In black. Thing is I was up visiting my cousin in Derby this weekend so we stopped off at the Audi dealer so I could show him the car I've ordered. Their demo was black and though it looked mean we both agreed it hid some of the lines. He is a bit younger than me and was telling me to order red as it stood out so much ( there was a Sline in red there).

Red is too loud for me though!

No. I'd have had to lie, and didn't have my license on me.

What colour have you ordered Riz?
