Cancelled my order
Cancelled my order
I went to see and drive one yesterday and today I cancelled my order. Why? Because its just not special enough. I didn't stay awake last night thinking about having one. It never sent shivers down my spine.
The two main reasons are looks and engine. It just doesn't look special enough. Even the salesman agreed that my B5 looked better when parked side by side. Its too tall and narrow at front where the B5 is lower and wider. You can't tell the diffeence between a TDI S-line and an RS4. Its looks probably appeal to the BMW market. It's more like Jordan than Keira Knightley. Not for me anyway.
I found the engine noisey and sluggish until I geared down which I would never need to do in my car.
I know what the journos say but they have a hidden agenda.
Anyway, thats where I stand. I have no idea what I will replace my car with. Thinking 2nd hand Bentley continental. Has all the ingredients of great car. 4WD, Turbo and def more Keira than Jordan.

Re: Cancelled my order
It's understated looks is one of the reasons I ordered one. Sometimes it's better to know you've got it without having to shout about it. But as with everything, its horses for courses, you can't please all the people all of the time.

What's that?
Bentley - nice car. Freefall depreciation though, I would have thought.

RE: Re: Cancelled my order
Each to there own. You are buying what you see, there is nothing hidden what so ever and as davey B said it is understated.
Can't see the press getting a back hander to big the car up and get the allocation sold, most of the reviews do differ from the "Aston V8 beater" article to the "very fast family saloon but too expensive".
Bentleys are nice agreed but they aren't £50K yet (are they) and I am sure they won't be that price by the summer either.

There are always going to be differnces between old and new......... some better, some worserer............but the major difference is the that of turbo and non turbo engines. Non turbo engines will need to be worked, and also need miles on them before they become crisp, you also need to change your driving habits. As for the looks, I agree, the B7 does not look special as a saloon, hence waiting for an Avant, not that I need another luggage lugger, its just that they look better.

Tend to agree the B7 doesn't look special from the outside. The interior is delicious though.simple1 wrote:There are always going to be differnces between old and new......... some better, some worserer............but the major difference is the that of turbo and non turbo engines. The B7 is in some respects has greater similarities to the M3 in driving styles, character etc than the B5. The new B7 will recruit different buyers to the Audi brand but will lose others (some of those who love/d the B5). I draw a similarity to the BMW design language...I loved the E46 but have run a mile from the new cars (E90).
Will try the B7 and see.
Ce la vie

LOL perfect comparisonRS4ever wrote: It's more like Jordan than Keira Knightley.

Er.. no. I think that's the problem, its not understated. The B7 is brash and loud. The B5 is understated. Only those in the know, know what it is and nod their heads knowinglyDavey_B wrote:It's understated looks is one of the reasons I ordered one.

Absolutely agree!! The new RS4 is a lovely car but put it next a diesel one with all the bits with Sline pack , well it does look nearly the same.RS4ever wrote:I went to see and drive one yesterday and today I cancelled my order. When they did the RS2 it was really special and no other audis did look the same at the time and still today it does look fabulous!!
Same thing with the RS4 B5 ! It does look a proper sport car and you can't miss it park next some other cars!
I guess that is the new way for audi wish is a shame, i think they didn't make it "crazy" enough like the RS2 and RS4 B5.....Sorry guys!

Re: Cancelled my order
RS4ever, out of interest what colour was the RS4 you saw, I am sure colour has a major part to play in how the car looks? At the Melbourne Motor Show the Sprint Blue didn't look good under lights.RS4ever wrote:I went to see and drive one yesterday and today I cancelled my order. Why? Because its just not special enough. Re: Cancelled my order
The test car was Daytona Grey like the one I had ordered. If I was ordering now I would go for Avus silver.gazzab wrote:RS4ever, out of interest what colour was the RS4 you saw, I am sure colour has a major part to play in how the car looks?
