I’m currently getting quotes together for my new RS4 (B7)……what is everyone’s experience on this subject – companies offering the
lowest quotes, do I need to have a tracker, etc.?

Most companies insuring cars over £30 grand want tracker/trackstar......... issue is they don't reduce the risk when its fitted and circa £500 for a decent system is a big investment on behalf of the insurance company to cover the risk of total loss by theft.

I pay £685 for my range rover sport right now.
Im 24 have 7 years NCB and a decent post code, car is not garaged, has a tracker horizon system.

Have a quote setup for May/June arrival, and they want £400 more for the rest of the 8 months left on the policy at that time for the RS4, want a tracker monitor as minimum security system. Company is Direct Line, apparently they own tracker, not sure if thats correct, but something Land Rover told me when they said the same thing about the sport last August.

The quote system wouldn't give me quote, had to speak to them and get them to speak to the underwriters to guarantee me the quote and to see if i met their criteria for this high risk model.

I'm paying about £1500 a year with Tracker Horizon, through a local broker. Central London, car garaged, Full NCB, clean licence, 30 years old.

My RS6 was £2k without any tracking device, I was 28 at the time.
