I (along with many others) was at the Ring this weekend & on the final evening, a curious looking Audi rolled into the hotel car park. It sounded more like an RS6 than an S4, so once the drivers (Audi people) had left the car park, i went to have a closer look.

Basically, this car had genuine RS6 wheels (19"), RS6 brakes all round & RS6 tailpipes (2x large oval). Upon closer inspection, you could see bits of plastic stuck oddly around the car & an interesting front grille/spoiler with a lower splitter. The car body was B6 S4 Avant, but the engine was certainly not S4.

My guess is that this car was the B7 RS4 Avant mule. One of my co-travellers took some pictures (at night on a phone camera), so they'll be public fairly soon. He also managed to catch one of the Audi people the following morning & all they said was that the car "was a prototype".

Also sighted a couple of BMW M6's & the BMW prize went to an M6 Cabrio (mule but badly disguised). Got sight of the brand new Merc S500, but the AMG version which was also badly disguised.

Don't suppose it had any intercoolers visible did it ??....

Not so good work. Only one pic came out!! That was simply of the S4's rear arch where it had been hammered out to make it take the extra width of the RS4 underneath.

I went back in the morning to get pics but got caught by the Audi guys as I was walking towards it. The said nothing more than Paul mentioned above and sped off.

I love the little village we stay in as there's always either test cars, F1 teams (not drivers) all staying there.

I did get some pics of a rare collection outside the hotel next to ours : Silver M5, Black M5, M6 and M6 cab. All had M5 or M6 matching plates apart from the cab.

I spoke yesterday with a dealer in Glasgow as I have a deposit down for the RS4 Saloon. Delivery was originally Sept 2005, then March 2006, and now he can't even give me a date as Audi Germany have given them no details as to when they can expect their first vehicle in the UK!!!

I smell a rat!!!

Methinks they are trying to delay the launch in the UK for as long as possible to build demand.

A risky game, and one which I will not be a part of.......
