What Is Going On With The New RS4? Is It A Hit Or A Miss?

Post by AUDI|RS4 » Sun Mar 06, 2005 5:29 pm

No one is sure if the new RS4 B7 will be a hit or a miss, but many people are saying it will be a hit in the U.S. and a miss in the U.K.

What do YOU think?

I have to say that the RS4 B7 will be a big hit for the U.S. because we have been waiting ever since the B5 came out. However, in Europe, mostly the U.K., the RS4 B7 won't be that big of a hit because of the significant changes, or downsizes, that were made.

It's not a matter of geographical location.
If you don't like the design, you don't like it.

I'm from the US.

I HATE American cars.
No handling, crappy interiors, pathetic designs, etc....

I can buy a car with more HP and much faster to 60 for less than an RS4.
Will I ? Hell no.

I've owned a GTI, A4 and now have an S4 and a Toureg.

I can go get an STI or Evo and be just as fast for 1/2 the price.

It's the craftsmanship, the design, the drivability that makes you spend 2x the money for a certain car.
My friends Legacy GT can almost hang with my S4 for 1/2 the price. But the interior is like a Honda Civic.

You either like the car or you don't.
You like certain things, but others lack.

It doesn't have anything to do with where you live, it's your personal tastes.

I know a V6 TT will get better mileage per gallon(litre).
You think I like paying for high octane gas for this puppy? no, but we as sports car enthusiast live wit it.
If you have to think in terms of Gas mileage, then you can't afford cars like this in the first place.

Hit: all over the world, with everyone that buys one. Simple.

the uptake has been slow so far over here, so i suppose its a miss, all it needs to put the last nail in the coffin is Clarkson to slag it off

I agree with JR! I think it is a miss over in European countries. We will find out soon if it will hit big in the U.S. Many of my dealers here in the U.S. are trying to get their hands on as many as possible stating that it will become huge here. I will post anything I hear.

AoA will get alotted the specified amount of US spec cars.
It's not up the dealers how much of a hit it is.
It's going to be up to Audi to see how many US spec cars are built.

AoA info states that the US will get 1250 cars.

Sure, it'll be a hit here with such limited numbers.

If Audi tried to sell as many of these as BMW sells of M3's, I bet it would be considered a flop.

But at limited numbers, it will sell.

I agree 100%. It may be changed though. I'm not sure if you have heard that. If a dealer sells out of his cars. For instance, a dealer in Manhattan is more likely to sell a RS4 than a dealer in Tennessee. Anyways, if the dealer in Manhattan sells all of his RS4's, then Audi would lose money if their car was sitting on a lot in Tennessee for two years. I hope you understand what I am saying.

1250 RS4s in the states will make it a rare bird indeed, but seeing as the B5 was 6039 world wide makes that even rarer, i hope you guys manage to get your hands on one.

Thanks Jr. I think that kurt and I will be able to get our hands on the RS4 B7 when it hits the states. At least I hope so. I am so excited for this car, you don't even know. The 6039 B5's were rare indeed, but the fact that they were not really put into the States, made it harder for any American to get their hands on. The B7 will be in the States for sale, which will be excellent. We have been waiting!

Thanks sitas3. Man, if you were in the States, you would be crazed over this car as well.

what, even if the car's front end looks like a dog's backside and handles like a duck landing on a frozen pond? surely you'd want to test drive it first?

Of course. Which would you choose? The Avant or the Saloon. Please explain the difference to me.

Kujo,

The pic you show is the best I've seen of it. I'm afraid its not really a hit with me and with even less torque than my current stock RS4 and having to work that engine harder to get it I'm already put off by the potential lack of performance over my B5 RS. However, on the plus sides it sounds like it maybe an interesting handling machine. I like the interior. I guess I can't say for sure whether I'll change my mind until I see the thing in the flesh and drive it. One thing I do know, throught my whole life I've constantly wanted more power whether it was from a bike or a car once I've got used to it, and that won't be an easy option from this engine unlike my B5 RS4.

That is very true. I think the car is a poweful one for it's time. Remember, the last car to hit the United States before this RS4 will, was the S4. That is nothing compared to the RS4. I think it will be sufficient power for those who think that their S4 is not powered enough. For instance, comparing the S4 to the M3, it is a tough question. The M3 might take it. But now, comparing the RS4 to the M3, there is no question at all. The RS4, all hands down, would destroy the M3 in all aspects. For you U.K. people out there, the B7 has no where near as much power needed for you, because of the B5. I have a feeling that Audi will definitly target the next car towards you, possibly putting a turbo in it. Get Ready Out There! The RS4 Is Coming!
