Dissapointed

Post by johneroberts » Tue Feb 22, 2005 9:14 pm

Is it me or am i not the only one that feels that the RS4 has been completely made for the wanting American market?
1. there is no limited run of the car (unlike any other RS produced)
2. A first Saloon ever produced before the true RS Avant!
3. A non turbo car (the first ever i believe!)
4. It looks very like a chris bangle design...yuk
Well done Audi for producing a car that is exactly what the Americans can replace there S4s with and feel like they have something special, we all know that they were pissed at the fact the RS4 B5 never reached them.. and thank god it didnt...
Lets hope the RS4 Avant has a better reception than the saloon, but by the looks of things we all know whats its going to look like and perform like...
I can remember the first time i saw the RS4 B5 and thought i have to have one of those... fortunately i dont feel the same about the latest offering. Cheers jr

I agree entirely. I have been saying this for ages now. "No turbos - me no buy". I don't like the BMW style wheels. I don't like the body kit. The B5 was so subtle and HAS so much street presence. I would never buy a saloon so it remains to see what the Avant looks like. This is a biy racer's car. The B5 was never that. It was an enthusiats car.

Looks like I will be keeping it.

I also agree. not my style all. It almost got a "Bling" factor!
-thought RS was always the final"special" end of a model line...but that feeling is gone...
-Think they will make and sell as much as they can...

for me the cream on pie will always be the : rs2, s6plus and rs4

I can't see a reason to swap mine for one. The biggest difference would be the mpg may be a little better. Not worth the extra IMHO.

p.s. So my 'predictions' were spot on, apart from being 750rpm out on the red line. Will you all forgive me?

what about the bling wheels though Scotty? Surely you want them?

so a RS6 would blow one of these away then (especially chipped)?

The expectations were so high that most could only be disappointed. The B5 is not a perfect car neither, especially on the dynamics front. I guess the B7 is better there, if a bit short in the power dept.

I'll wait, see and drive before I write this one off.

The B7 RS4 has more power than the B5 RS4 does it not ?

Turbos are out for S & RS cars, they have cost Audi too much money in warranty claims.

Not everyone likes avants.

I also find it amazing that any car can be judged so harshly before being seen, let alone driven!

Like I said earlier, who would be a manufacturer, you can't win.

Not into the bling thing. I guess you don't buy an understated car like an S4 if you're into that.

I don't think an RS6 would blow one away. You need a lot of horsepower difference to blow a car away. As you may have seen on Saturday, my S4 (stage 3 but currently without the remap) held the RS6 (heavily modded) at bay all day. Of course the RS6 was faster in a straight line but due to my bigger experience of tracking and I guess the increased confidence with my car that comes with doing trackdays, the RS6 was never was in a position to think about overtaking. It's a shame I didn't have the video on otherwise I could have shown this and even when I had to wait!! :kissmyrings:

Can't believe there is no Avant at the off. My interest would have moved onto something else by the time that arrives. When's the new RS6 due out guys?

Don't know when the next RS6 is due, but I bet my money that it will be the same story as the new RS4: from V8 turbo to V10 n/a, marginally more power, less torque but 100-150kg lighter... and available as saloon first.

Also like all high revving normally aspirated engines, torque to weight is much less than power to weight. Indeed the torque figure is little above the S4's. Therefore unless you rev the **** off it, it will be no quicker on the road than the S4.

Finally, what will the range be with that 63 litre tank - 200-220 miles?
