Next RS4 - what do we want

Post by JJRS4 » Thu Sep 04, 2003 5:36 pm

How about us telling Audi what we want from the next RS4. Here's my bit:

Avant only
3.2 V6 twin turbo please - about 480bhp
Manual gear box
Really good brakes - Porsche would be nice if you can't do your own
Adjustable suspension
Electric seats that remember your position so it doesnt take 3 days to get it back to where you had it.
A spare wheel
Body work like the current RS4 - NOT little bulges like the RS6
Limited production run
Discounts for current owners
Standard RS4 (is it the only standard one left?)

Think that about sums it up JJ

Would only add;

Stronger gearbox with different ratios.
A cupholder that doesn't piss coffee all over my SatNavPlus.
Better steering feedback from the road.
Wheels that are fit for purpose.

What about additionally:

- better performance exhaust with nicer sound!
(of course not the Mad Max brigade type stuff, but cool...)

- a distinctive colour, just like the AVUS is/was plus all the regular colours (misano and yellow for our french friends...), noggy of course too.

- regarding brakes: yes, better breaks, better cooling

- suspension: some of you have said that they should have put the quattro suspension in from the beginning...(just recapping, cannot judge first hand)

Nice thread, good idea to collect the input online, so our friends can take a good proposal to Neckarsulm ( )

one more thought, Phil, for when you go: maybe some nice stats on the group of people who are populating RS4-section of RS246.com (e.g., "from UK, Germany, France, Switerland, Italy, US, Finland, Australia, NZ, Argentina, etc.", "50?? owners", 50% stock, 50% modded with a,b,c,)

Just think this might give more weight to the fact that this wish-list represents quite some folks.

Any thoughts?

Hi!
I agree with all, but:
Manual Gear box or DSG gear box
And in Brazil RS4´s Yellow Imola is great colour too!

I'm not too fussy and am prepared to allow Audi its compromises on some things.

So while I would like to see the engine moved further back in the chassis in order to get a less front end heavy car I will accept that it may not be possible, for reasons of interior space, within chassis size limitations.

I wont be fobbed off though. Anyone remember Audi saying just before the RS4 release "these are currently the best brakes we can put into a car" ? I hope they really were lying. If they werent then its an admission that they just cant DO brakes.

The next RS4 really does need a minimum of 450hp. If this means Audi has to work on the RS6 to improve on whats there and allow room, then so be it! I want an all up weight of no more than 1700kg. This will allow for sufficient toys and creature comforts that are important in this sector. We need 500hp if weight creeps up to 1800kgs, and / or if the car isn't turbocharged, 'cos then the tweaking gets expensive

Its not an unreasonable request either. We know the car wont sell with less.

Uprated DSG box. Adaptive damping. Variable ride height. Good traction systems, which can be switched to fully off. 4wd system that can be set to front / middle or rear bias when apportioning drive. Higher geared steering rack. Adjustable boost, Boost gauges... (sorry but that would be useful!)

Base price of around £56,500 for 450hp with turbos. £60,000 for 500hp naturally aspirated.

I'm gonna stop now before my drooling shorts out the laptop. Go on, Audi. Make me want one like I wanted an RS4

1. Definitely agree has to be avant only.
2. DSG or similar sequential gearbox.
3. 19 / 20 inch wheel option (non-bendy variety).
4. RS6 engine will do nicely thanks.
5. (minimum) 80 litre fuel tank (especially if turbo option retained).
6. New colours (quite like Laguna Seca blue).
7. Definitely NON subtle - we like 'e loud

And a couple of little things:
1. Arm rest that will take a little more weight than an ants testicle.
2. ............and that about it really

Audi will produce another RS4, although I dont think it will be as exclusive as the two before it.

When they bring it out they should offer an option similar to what BMW are doing with the M3 range and the CSL version , but something far more radical.

Along with the standard 'grandad' RS4 with all its heavy, power consuming luxury and mod cons, they should offer a lightweight stripped out version. Lose a [censored] load of weight say 250-300kg by removing everything (and I mean 'everything') that is not actually needed to drive the car, stiffen the chassis up and have race spec brakes and suspension allround. Oh, and while they have the car in peices trying to remove weight, they should have ago at turning the engine around and putting it where the back seats are.

The bits removed can be listed as cost options with the actual weight of each item listed also.

Owners weighing over a certian amount will get a 3 year VIP SlimFast in with the deal along with the Greenflag recovery.

New RS4 stock has to be: 0 - 100km/h in 4s and TOP SPEED 300km/h!
Then It´s good!

I know I'm asking too much but all I want is a nice shiny replacement for my (now nearly 3yr-old-with-warranty-about-to-expire) RS4 exactly the same as the one I've got but with 0 miles on it and a nice new 3 year warranty. (And 450bhp, hard wheels and better brakes would be nice!).
Am I alone out there?

I really do hope Audi bring a car out that will entice you guys to move on, because I want what you have!! Hopefully this would give us (those with not so much dosh, and currently running an S4) a chance to own this beast. I’m waiting to see the prices on the RS4 go below 30k mark, and then I’m in the market place to buy, but so far they are holding well above this. Although I’ve seen one for 24K it looked very suspect (LHD/no paper work or history!). IMO, I think the RS4 alongside the RS2, are the most awesome looking/performing cars Audi have ever made, I can really appreciate how RS4/RS2 owners cherish their cars. So any one want to sell theirs??? £25-£28K???
