Bonnet strut replacement

HI folks.

Been a while since I posted on here.. mainly because I've been enjoying happy motoring in my rs4, thankfully!

However.. yesterday I went to check my fluid levels before a longish drive and discovered that my gas strut that holds the bonnet open has failed.. i.e. doesn't even try to keep it open!

Having spoken to the independent garage I use for maintenance etc they tell me it's no longer available, even on back order. everywhere else apart from ebay looks to be out of stock, and ebay recommends various things, including struts designed for B8 and B9 cars.

has anyone used one of these struts successfully, and if so, could you please tell me where I can purchase one!?

I used an OEM Hood strut 8E0823359A for the A4/S4 B7 - while it's a bit stiff for the RS4's aluminum hood, it does work. There is also an aftermarket one by Stabilus that I didn't use.
