Hi all. I’m thinking of parking the car up for a while and Just wondering what are people using to cover their cars for external storage and what trickle charges you are using??

I use on my B7 each winter. They even offer an add on which allows you to charge via the cigarette lighter socket, negating the need to mess around with the battery charging points under the bonnet or in the boot.

This works perfectly as the power to the socket is live all of the time on the B7, unlike some cars which need the ignition turned on for it to work.

Had a full respray on mine lately and was told in no uncertain terms absolutely do not ever put it under a cover. Wind moves it constantly at a low level and will over time develop swirlies and small scratches akin to a bad wash mitt. I was told put it inside or leave it. Be interested to hear if anyone has actually experienced this though - especially with some of the higher quality covers I see.

I’ve used a CTek trickle charger for years. Absolutely brilliant, never let me down

All of these chargers Ctek, Nocco etc are made in China, I've one for my car and bikes I bought 3 years ago, works perfectly.

I think if it has been repainted with solvent based paint, putting a cover on it will also cause it to micro-blister!

Mine gets a good detailed clean, ctek trickle charger connected & then covered in a Carbon collective soft car cover when it’s in hibernation for the winter tucked up in the garage.
Would never put a car cover on a car when left outside for the very reason your body Shop has stated, why pay all that money to get perfect paint only to cock it all up with a cover.
If you don’t have the ability to put it away for the winter, wait for the paint to finish venting off approx 8-10 weeks from painting & then have it detailed & ceramic coated, at least the coating will help whilst it’s being battered by weather.

Ok so car will be getting a ceramic coating no cover going on it and will be parked up in the next few weeks. Trickle charger , seen one at Halfords that I’ll pick up.
Another question. As I’m going to sorn the car for around 4 years.
For the ones on here who have done this. Do you still get it MOT’d and serviced while it’s off the road? I’ll be starting it once a week and moving it around a little just to make sure nothing seizes up.
