EPC Light EML Light 614 Relay Fuel Pump Relay

After 6 years of trouble free motoring, my 2007 RS4 Avant decided to have a little wobble today. :boohoo:

Laboured start (normally fires in about 3 cranks), then it started, lumpy and the EPC light was on. The EPC has never been on before.

Drove it carefully and car would go from running fine, to misfiring a bit. Then the EML light came on.

Car then stalled; and was difficult to start, however when it did start, it ran absolutely fine.

Got home, ignition off, ignition on and all was well again ...

I did do a quick scan with a cheap scanner to look for clues and got the following

P0458
P2009
P2257
P0414
P0031
P0037
P129C
P0051
P0057

Lots of Googling seems to point to the relays, which i will try first to eliminate if nothing else.

I understand that the relays are located under the ECU and that the offending one is the Fuel Pump 614 (now superseded by 644), but it is good practise to change them all out seeing as getting to the relays is a bit of PITA, including the removal of a wiper arm.

My question is ... apparently there are also relays (including 614) located in the interior of the cabin by the UK Drivers side "knee" area...

I just want to ensure that I am indeed changing out the right relays, as the internet seems to be a little conflicting.

As ever, any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thank you :rocker:

Little update on this.

The skuttle area behind the engine and in front of the bulkhead was full of water. This is basically where all the water ends up which comes down the windscreen.

I found the drain, which looks like a large teardrop and gave it a prod. The grommet fell through the hole and the whole area emptied.

So that may be why I was having an issue. It's running AOK now.

The grommet which I lost is no longer available from Audi, so I had to buy one on eBay for about £16 which was double the Audi price. You need quite small hands to replace it, or remove the earth stick which is right in the way.

Hopefully we are sorted now but in any event, some guidance on the relay would be appreciated.

Can't help you with how to do the relay job itself (had it done by my local indy) but the problems it caused me were intermittent. So sorry to be an Eeyore, but it may come back.

Thank you for the heads up. I'll be wary then!

Presumably the relay job they did fixed the issue once and for all?

It was only done a few months ago, but it's been perfect ever since. The frequency of problems had been on the up before it was done, so I am pretty sure I'd have known all about it by now if it hadn't cured it!
