Hello everyone,

I just picked up a 2008 RS4 Avant on Friday and enjoyed it all weekend.

Then yesterday I got a CEL on a short drive into town. I got it scanned that evening and it showed the following codes:

I turned the car on and off again and the dash cleared. The car was running fine so I went for a drive. After some normal driving I started pushing a bit more, and at one point while pushing past 5500 RPM the fuel cut off, ESP and EPC lights came back on again and the car went into limp mode. I turned the car on and off a few times and after a while it looked OK so I drove back home and called it a night. This evening I took it out again and at first it was fine, even managed to push up to 7000 RPM without an issue, but eventually on another hard pull I got the lights and the limp mode again.

I'm reading a lot on the forums about throttle bodies, MAF sensors, HPFP etc., so it sounds like it could be a variety of things, but was wondering if anyone here would have an idea based on the codes?

Thanks in advance!

Did you clear all the fault codes in all the modules or just the first ECU?

I would assume from those fault codes that the throttle is sticking. You could try checking the measured angle with the Vagcom with the engine off in the measuring blocks.

Yes I took it to Audi and it seems it's the throttle body. They say the whole intake manifold needs to be replaced because the throttle body is part of the manifold. Can anyone confirm? I've read on the forums that people are buying throttle bodies (for example, from the Corvette) so I assumed it can be replaced without replacing the whole intake manifold.

Yeah, I know people who have just replaced the throttle body. What a strange thing to tell you.

You might be able to repair yours. They’re pretty simple inside.

I'm not very mechanically gifted unfortunately.. I don't mind having it replaced by Audi but I want to be sure if I need to replace the whole IM. The dealer is a family friend so I tend to trust them.. I'll have to speak to them again once I bring the car back, perhaps I'm not translating the part names correctly as we are in a French-speaking country.

Oh, I didn't realise this was an RS4 thread. My mistake.

Still, I stand by what I said, can't think of a single reason why you would need to touch the intake manifold.

The part number for the boitier papillon is 079 133 062 B. Looks like they are reasonably available. Autodoc might be able to order one for you. They list a PIERBURG 7.14423.07.0 which also looks like it was used on a few Opel cars.

If you're in France you can order an OE throttle body from Audi Tradition. They will deliver there.
