Is it a write off? The insurance said it is, but that's without them seeing pictures.

Oh no. Is it just bonnet & bumper? Are the headlight mountings stil ok?
Fight the insurance company as they are so quick to write cars off. They will see it's 16/17yrs old & automatically just say it's a write off

I'm ok thanks. I stuffed it up the back of a truck in a queue of traffic.
The radiator has gone, bonnet, grille and bumper. Not sure about the headlamps as I haven't really inspected it yet.

I think the bonnet on the Cab was steel vs the aluminium ones fitted to the Avant and saloon so they will be considerably cheaper and easier to source.
You can probably pick up a used steel bonnet and 2nd hand bumper from a breaker.
As long as the engine has not been damaged or pushed back that can be fixed.

No air bags or seat belt tensioners gone off. As above, reckon it's fixable. Might need a friendly bodyshop happy with using 2nd bits

Main thing is that you are ok and no one was hurt. Get it looked at before they right it off. or worst case buy it back and repair it

Mine was worse than that when a wall fell on it, insurance thought it was an A4 so tried to write it off, I had to speak to one of the engineers who was looking at the pictures to get them to realise it was an RS4. Once they understood they agreed to the repair straight away

So, the insurance company have written it off. They have offered me just over 13000. 4200 to buy it back.
Damage that I know of is as follows:
OS front headlamp
Bumper
Grille
Radiator
Slam panel/Radiator surround
The car still runs and drives ok, but I am going to ask the engineer at my local Audi specialist if he can assess the damage.
Out of interest, what is the unit which was pushed into the radiator?
Decisions, decisions...

Airbags didn't deploy nor are the seatbelts locked

Sorry to see this. Been there before and it’s sickening. As said above, at least no one is hurt.
13k seems a tad low. How many miles has it done? Definitely worth getting repairs priced up. My only reservation about buying it would be selling it at later date is bound to be a pain so I would be prepared to run it indefinitely.
Seems car prices are starting to soften so it could be a blessing in disguise to try something else out.
All the best.

Thanks. It has around 96,000 on the clock. I have asked for them to up the offer, apparently it can take up to 8 weeks for a decision.

That's a very easy fix, probably £1500-2k very max, the offer they have given you ain't too great I would try get at least another 2-3k out of them and then buy back, if you are near London I can get an AUDI maindealer bodyshop to fix that for you at a fraction of what you would normally pay, my cab is going in to have some bodywork done end of month I was quoted £1200 at 2 bodyshops these guys are doing it for £500 as a private job
