Can't unlock car

Post by kev4 » Sun Jan 29, 2023 10:54 pm

Hi,
Sorry to be a pain and just on here for help, I have been a member of this forum and owned the same car for 6 years, but I'm a tech dinosaur.

I've did a quick search and found a couple of answers, but just checking with you guys and girls before I start doing anything.

Car has sat for a couple of months during the winter and I went to start it but both key fobs won't open the doors.

Car battery has been on charge and trickle charger shows that battery is good.

Red flashing alarm light on drivers door flashes once every 2-3secs.

Changed batteries in key fobs and they flash when pressed.

Question, can I use the car key to open the door without the alarm going off as I don't want the alarm howling and I can't turn it off and then turn the ignition?

Can I just follow these instructions below, that I found on the form to get the fobs working again?

Steps to reprogram keys to a car they are already linked to:
1. Press and hold the unlock key on a remote
2. Insert key in ignition and turn to on (while still holding unlock)
3. Hold unlock while in the on position for 2 seconds
4. Turn key to off, remove from ignition and release button.

Anyone know why this has happened?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Yep you should be able to follow those steps and it will work, recently had my battery disconnected and it did the same thing.

You have to reprogram the keys when the battery is drained or disconnected, my guess is it is a security feature.

Used the key to get into the car and reset the key fob using the above instructions, all good.

Cheers Kev.

I realise you solved you problem already, but just so you know: Even if you had triggered the car alarm doing smth with your yet un-paired key, you would have been able to cancel the alarm by inserting the key in the ignition lock and turning it to IGN. At least that's AFAIR. You just have to brace yourself for the startle factor of the alarm going of...
