RS4 Idle sound (rattling sound?)
RS4 Idle sound (rattling sound?)
Hi,
Relatively new RS4 owner. I've been wondering if this sound is normal. Kind of sounds like a rattle on something that is pumping or spinning, perhaps a metal plate is vibrating against a surface.
I've had a full inspection and health check done at MRC and they found no issues but didnt comment on the sound.
Is this how B7's normally sound? Seems to come from the front left.

Any comments would be appreciated!

Re: RS4 Idle sound (rattling sound?)
Mine doesn’t sound like that but when I get chance I’ll make a video of mine idling so you can compare.
Re: RS4 Idle sound (rattling sound?)
That is not normal. Sounds like Aux belt tensioner if coming from the front?. Or is it chain\tensioner rattle?
Re: RS4 Idle sound (rattling sound?)
I will get you a video by this weekend sorry not had chance. Although can guarantee it shouldn’t be sounding like that. Where are you from? Needs to get looked at tbh.
I’ve now sent you a link to video in your PM

Appreciate the video thank you. Will definitely get MRC to investigate it when I take it to be serviced.
Re: RS4 Idle sound (rattling sound?)
Had the issue fixed, it turns out it was the AC pump clutch. My AC had stopped working due to a leak so the clutch was free wheeling. When that was fixed, the sound would go whenever the AC is turned on (so the clutch closing). Mystery solved. Thankfully wasn't a chain or tensioner.
