Intermittent Starting Not the Same as Any Previous Posts!

Hi all,
I know the intermittent starting issues have been done to death seemingly but I’ve got an issue that doesn’t seem to have been covered yet.
Usual start process, dip clutch, press start button, no crank, only a loud clicking noise from under the drivers seat area (outside the car, not inside!). Only a single click like a relay or switch making, then breaking when the button is released.
Keep at this for a few goes and hold down the button, the car eventually fires up and runs fine. Cruise control is fully operational.
During one go the EPC light came on and then once the engine settled to idle speed the EPC light went out.
Once she fires up I can stop and start again no worries, it only seems to happen after sitting overnight.
Not got the VCDS on it yet, and I’ve changed the lower clutch switch, I have an upper in stock but reluctant to touch this one as the cruise control is working ok.
I’m thinking starter motor, bad earth or poor connections.
Anyone else know this particular sequence?
Cheers
Garry

Sounds like the starter to me. Mine did similar and was down to corroded wires on the terminal block.

Ran a couple of scans which brought up intermittent faults on starter relay and an earth, which I expect to be the starter motor earth.
The EPC light came in and stayed on when out to get a PCR test for travelling back to work, a 4 hour round trip. The scan showed issues with a manifold flap sensor and the MAF sensor.
I’ll get these on order while I’m away, luckily she’s not the daily anymore so my wife need not worry.
In amongst all this I’ve noticed the left aux radiator is leaking so it’ll be an expensive over winter I guess.
Once all is fixed I’ll post up results in case anyone wants reference.
Seems to be one year low cost and one year high.
I can’t bring myself to sell her, nothing can replace the feeling!
Unless of course there is a wildly high offer beginning with a 3
Money talks as they say…..
Cheers

Hi, my b7 rs4 does not start after being parked overnight. There is a relay clicking but no swinging of the engine. But if I hook on the battery charger for 1 minute - the car starts with full power then for the rest of the day there will be absolutely no problem starting. Then next day same scenario. Please help as can't be the battery neither the starter.

Nice work mate, sounds similar to what I am experiencing.

Can I ask where you got the starter motor from?

So I've been reading the replies etc to this post. Can anyone explain why my car will not start on the button from cold but as soon as I put a boost pack or jump leads on it fires up no problem and then good for the rest of the day. I can go out the next morning and it will not fire up. Relays changed. Brand new stop start battery. Drain check showed no problems . Very frustrating.
